the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children say that they are happy and feel safe within the home. They have positive experiences and feel secure, which is conducive to their well-being and development.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff promote time spent with family. Parents are pleased with the care that their children receive. One child’s parent spoke highly about the staff, who keep them well informed, and they praised the staff’s consistent approach, which has allowed their child to build positive relationships in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Observations of interactions between staff and children demonstrate positive relationships, where children appear comfortable and at ease. Staff show genuine care and attentiveness, responding to the children’s needs with empathy and understanding. This supportive environment encourages children to engage openly with staff, reinforcing their sense of belonging and security within the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
During a significant incident, staff took action to help children to become safe. Their actions demonstrated an understanding of emergency protocols and a commitment to safeguarding. However, due to staffing levels, children were not fully protected from harm. This will be addressed through targeted training and revised procedures to enhance the staff’s ability to manage similar situations in the future effectively. The home’s leadership is proactive in implementing these changes to ensure continued high standards of care and safety.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children and staff are given the opportunity to reflect on incidents. Staff debriefs are undertaken as a group, meaning they are not given the opportunity to raise any individual concerns. Also, details of times and staff involved in incidents are not fully captured.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Plans are in place to keep children safe and consider the risks and worries about the children. However, the plans do not consistently consider the nighttime routine for the children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Managers and staff demonstrate a thorough understanding of the children in their care and show affection and care towards them. Some agency staff are used; however, these are subjected to checks equivalent to those for permanent staff. Agency staff are familiar to the children, ensuring continuity of care. This means children are cared for by staff who understand their individual needs. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC473473 3
