the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards.’ Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC456959 2
p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, the same child has continued to live in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Despite the child continuing to engage in some high-risk behaviours, including substance misuse and going missing from home, the child has made some measurable progress since moving to the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child engages with support services and understands the risks associated with substance misuse. However, despite ongoing efforts from the staff and a multi-agency approach to reducing risks for the child, the child continues to make choices that can potentially impact on their long-term health.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Suitable education arrangements are now in place for the child. These are tailored to the child’s needs and consider their previous educational circumstances. Staff work in partnership with education providers and other relevant professionals to ensure that the child has every opportunity to reach their full academic potential.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager now ensures that the child’s wishes, views and feelings are captured well. For example, the quality of the recorded key-work sessions that staff complete with the child has improved. In addition, staff use regular house meetings to provide the child with the opportunity to share their opinions of the home and the care that they receive. As a result, the child feels valued and listened to.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The standard of the home environment has improved. Damage to the child’s bedroom has now been repaired. This, alongside the recent refurbishments that have taken place in the home, now creates a comfortable home environment for the child to live in.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There are clear boundaries in place in respect of managing challenging behaviour. Although the child’s behaviour can be challenging, staff are consistent in their responses. Staff use the quality of their relationships with the child to manage these situations. This means that staff rarely need to physically hold the child to manage behaviour.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When the child goes missing from the home, staff follow the joint protocol effectively. Searches conducted by staff and persistent attempts to make contact show the child that they are cared about. Proactive collaboration with the local authorities and police supports the child to return home safely. Missing-from-care incident records are clear, enabling thorough monitoring of these events by the registered manager. Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC456959 3 There have been changes to the management of the home since the last inspection. The home is now overseen by a suitably qualified and experienced registered manager. She is supported by a deputy manager.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and managers have ensured that staff have the appropriate training and skills to meet the specific needs of the child in the home. Staff have been provided with relevant training, including child criminal exploitation and substance misuse. Regular team meetings and supervision provide further opportunities for the staff to reflect and learn.
p.3
Findings from the inspection

This ensures that the child has the appropriate support to help them to make progress and maximise their potential.
