p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2774120 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children feel happy and safe living at this home. Two of the three children are new to the home, having very recently moved in. Both children are settling in well. Staff ensured that each child’s move into the home was well managed. The third child has been living at the home since it opened and is making good progress. The child has started a college course that they are enjoying.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Each child has individualised plans that provide clear guidance for staff on how to meet the child’s identified needs. These are live documents and kept under review to ensure they remain current.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s behaviour is appropriately managed. There have been no incidents of restraint being used or of children going missing from home. Clear protocols are in place for staff to follow should children leave the home without permission.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff provide children with a warm, welcoming and spacious home. It is personalised for the children who live there, including photos of the children and staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the previous inspection, the deputy manager has been appointed as the manager and successfully completed their registration with Ofsted. The manager has a clear understanding of the strengths and areas for development in the home and the team and has plans in place to address these.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

At the previous inspection, shortfalls were identified in the quality and effectiveness of a review into the breakdown of a child’s placement. The new manager has subsequently carried out their own review. This is of good quality and identifies lessons learned and actions to be taken to improve practice in the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Although the staff team is in the early stages of development, changes in the team have been managed well and need time to embed. Staff are recruited safely, receive regular, reflective supervision and are supported to develop their practice effectively. When needed, the manager follows human resource processes appropriately to end a person’s employment.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Both the manager and the responsible individual have identified that the independent person’s visits and reports do not provide them with the robust challenge they want to support the development of the home. Having tried to address this unsuccessfully with the independent visitor, the decision has been made to appoint a new independent visitor.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the previous inspection, the statement of purpose has been reviewed and updated. It now accurately reflects what the home provides for children who live there. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2774120 3
