Findings from the inspection
Ofsted did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children continue to have trusted and secure relationships with staff, which promotes positive relationships in the home. Children enjoy spending time with staff and their peers in the home. Group activities are promoted to further strengthen these relationships.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff understand children’s needs and how to support them. While some children continue to struggle with education, the registered manager ensures that the children’s entitlements to education are advocated through regular professionals’ meetings. Children who are not attending school or college are supported by staff to engage in educational opportunities in the home. This has resulted in improved independence skills for some children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been improvements in the home environment. Any damage in the home is repaired quickly and children are encouraged to keep their bedrooms tidy. The children can express their personalities through the choices they have made in relation to their bedroom decorations.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children are protected from harm as staff understand their individual risks. Staff demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding processes to keep children safe in line with their care plans. Risk assessments are kept up to date to ensure that relevant information is available to staff.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When children go missing from the home, staff act in line with their procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the child. Staff make efforts to locate the missing child and take swift action to inform professionals to ensure a multi-agency approach to dealing with missing-from-home incidents. Children receive return home interviews from the local authority, which capture their voice about why they went missing.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff understand how to manage each child’s behaviour in a therapeutic manner in line with the home’s model of care. Staff show good levels of knowledge regarding what causes children to get upset. Staff know how to keep children calmer, and as a result, staff rarely need to physically hold or guide children to keep them safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager uses a range of auditing tools to measure the progress of children and staff’s practice. These tools assist him to identify areas of strength and development, which are captured in corresponding action plans. The action plans support the home’s ongoing development and promote improved care for children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been improvements made with regards to staff training, which has supported a development in staff’s skills and knowledge. However, not all staff have Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2751088 3 completed their qualifications within the statutory timescales, which is a requirement for staff working at the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager is currently using agency staff to support the children in the home while vacancies are addressed. This may have an impact on the continuity of care the children receive and their ability to build trusting relationships within the home.
p.3
Findings from the inspection
Some records are not written in sufficient detail, and records regarding the actions of staff in response to incidents involving children are either inadequate or have not been written. This makes it difficult for the manager to understand the events that have taken place and the actions taken by staff. This may impact staff’s understanding of how an incident was managed and reduces the opportunities for future reflection and learning. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2751088 4
