This monitoring visit
Since the previous inspection in July 2024, staff have cared for two children. At the time of the visit, one child was living in the home and the inspector met them. A second child had lived in the home until they recently sadly passed away. The child’s death did not occur in the home but was the reason for this visit. While Ofsted does not have the power to investigate incidents of this kind, actions taken by the home in response to the incident were considered at the time of the visit.

This monitoring visit
Senior managers quickly responded to provide support for the child still living at the home, staff, and the family of the child who died. They recognise they are grieving and are providing support. The organisation already operates an instant access service to child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Managers contacted CAMHS for advice about how to best support the child and the team around them. The organisation continues to cooperate with the ongoing investigations from other organisations.

Staff speak fondly of children. Through staff support, children are helped to talk about their feelings and to become more independent in the community. Children have cooked with staff and helped them to fix things in the home. Children can have their friends over to stay, and staff are curious about the time children spend away from the home so that they can identify any concerns for children’s safety.
p.2
This monitoring visit
When it is time to move on, managers and staff support children throughout this. They recognise the challenges and advocate for children to help other professionals to understand the type of support they will need when they move on. Children are reluctant to move and see this as their home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home environment is not to a standard that managers aspire to. Recently, parts of the home have been damaged during some serious incidents. Plans are in place to rectify this. Glass is on order to repair the boarded windows, and the maintenance team is working through the list of work in priority order.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Professionals speak highly of the care provided to children. Both social workers speak of a team of staff who show commitment to children, despite any challenges, and support them to progress.
p.2
This monitoring visit
A new child is due to move into the home soon. This move has been planned for some time. Work is underway to paint their bedroom with their chosen colours, and some visits are planned before the child moves in permanently. The child is currently living in an unregistered children’s home. Due to this, decisions have been made not to delay this planned move.
