p.1

The provision is outstanding

The childminder creates an environment in which each child receives exceptional care and education. Children's emotional well-being is expertly nurtured. They learn how to behave very well and understand their emotions from a very early age. The calm and gentle nature of the childminder has a very positive impact on the way children respond, both to her and to each other. Children are caring and kind. They look after each other and demonstrate a remarkable maturity as they listen to what their friends have to say. Children are happy and settled. Prior to children starting at her provision, the childminder visits children in their own homes. This enables children to establish a bond before they transition in to the childminder's home.

The provision is outstanding

Children are highly independent learners. They demonstrate how keen they are to be involved as they enthusiastically approach activities and develop tremendous perseverance, with the childminder's encouragement. The childminder provides ongoing support for children to reach their full potential. Children share their success with others, for example, as they approach a visitor to the home and invite them to watch them 'work'. Very young children concentrate as they keep on trying during a threading activity. They effortlessly count the items they have threaded as the childminder encourages them to manipulate the thread and count at the same time. Children have excellent number skills for their age and the stage of their development.

n The childminder's highly ambitious curriculum is planned around children's current interests and complemented with Montessori resources and activities. Her vast early years knowledge and previous experiences contribute to a vibrant and unique programme of learning. Children become captivated with sequencing, sorting and using their critical thinking skills. They access activities that are challenging and differentiated to meet their individual learning needs. Consequently, children make rapid progress in their development. n The childminder is highly qualified. She uses her skills and professional judgement to tailor her approach to meet the unique learning style of each child. The childminder continues in her own research, for example, looking at how the environment impacts on children's learning. She constantly reviews her practice and uses her evaluations to make any adaptations to ensure that she is meeting

children's emotional, physical and learning needs. This helps children to build on their existing knowledge and to rapidly gain the skills needed for the next stage in their education. n The childminder is a wonderful role model. She is calm, kind, gentle and demonstrates beautiful manners, which she instils in children. For example, she reminds children how to select food and to serve each other and then

27 November 2024 themselves. Children are polite and well-mannered. The childminder encourages mealtimes to be social occasions, full of learning and questions. Children have excellent table etiquette as they collect their own plates and tidy away when they have finished. n The childminder provides children with a range of purposeful outings in the local community. For instance, she takes children to the woods to engage with nature. Children regularly visit the local greengrocers where they can handle and talk about the produce. Children are encouraged to ask questions of the shopkeeper, which supports their conversational skills effectively and helps them to become confident around other adults. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. They demonstrate a remarkable understanding of how to manage their own self care needs. For instance, even the youngest children collect a tissue

and use a mirror to help guide them when blowing their noses. n A key strength of the childminder's provision is the focus on supporting children's language and communication skills. The childminder engages children in interesting conversations throughout the day. Children are immersed in a language-rich environment and, as a result, are developing excellent speech and questioning skills. For example, the childminder skilfully uses open-ended questions and encourages children to use the correct pronunciation and language. Children describe the shape and size of eggs and discuss where they may come from. The childminder teaches and shows children the process of boiling an egg. She gives time for children to respond and comment as they provide ideas of how to cool the eggs before peeling and eating them. Practical experiences of this type significantly enhance children's learning and enjoyment.
