Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456542 2
p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been no children move in or out of the home since the last inspection. The child living in the home continues to build positive and trusting relationships with the staff team.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child now has a place at a local school and is currently attending taster sessions to support them to settle in. The child has enjoyed these sessions and is looking forward to attending full-time education. As an interim measure when the child was not in school, staff ensured that the child had an appropriate plan in place and access to a tutor. This supported the child to return to school.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, the child has experienced a significant life-changing event. The staff have been supportive of this and have helped the child to resume normality and structure. This has helped to minimise impact on the child’s day-to- day life.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is supported to spend quality time with family members. Although there have been changes in family time, staff have been proactive in providing the right level of support to the child to ensure that the child did not experience further disruption.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When there are any concerns relating to the child’s health, the staff respond appropriately by seeking appropriate medical assistance, supporting any hospital stays and ensuring that any prescribed medication is administered correctly. However, there has been a missed opportunity by the staff to identify the reason for changes in the child’s health.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The staff have encouraged the child to attend important health appointments and access additional health services. However, as the child experiences challenges in accessing some support, the provider has arranged for the company’s mental health practitioner to support the staff team. This ensures that the child can still be supported daily.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There has been one occasion when the child did not return home. However, this was well managed by the staff, who, due to their relationship with the child, maintained regular contact throughout the missing-from-home incident. Additionally, the staff worked closely with professionals to ensure the child was returned home safely.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The staff know the child well, and the child’s risks continue to decrease. The child has been able to share important information about their welfare with the staff, and this has helped the child to stay safe. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456542 3 The manager has improved their oversight of the care that the child receives and identifies any shortfalls in staff practice. Immediate changes have been made to improve the out-of-hours support systems for staff.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The staff receive regular supervision and attend team meetings that are child- centred. These opportunities enable the staff to reflect and improve their practice. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456542 4
