Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last full inspection in April 2023, two children have moved out of the home and one child has moved in. The initial assessment carried out by leaders demonstrates the child’s suitability to live in the home. This assessment is lengthy and details known and presenting risks. It includes a transition plan, which staff used to help prepare, support and welcome the child into the home. However, at times, staff struggle to manage the dynamics between the children. Additional risk assessments clearly assess these concerns and provide additional strategies and support for staff. As a result, the requirement raised at the last full inspection has been met.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Managers and staff are managing significant safeguarding incidents. Senior leaders take appropriate action to review, report, assess and investigate as necessary. There is a clear training and development pathway for staff, underpinned by these reviews and subsequent action outcomes.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Despite regular and good-quality training, staff do not always demonstrate the effective application and understanding of their learning. On occasions, staff have not used physical interventions when needed or followed policies and procedures for responding to, or escalating, safeguarding concerns to managers. Senior leaders have identified this through their own monitoring and have identifed key areas of upskilling, planned to be overseen in biweekly clinical group supervision and training workshops led by the therapeutic and service development manager.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Senior leaders carry out good-quality internal investigations that include relevant and necessary information to identify clear learning outcomes. When needed, additional risk assessments are implemented and updated to reduce the likelihood of reoccurrences. Actions from these investigations are appropriate and demonstrate a clear focus on upskilling staff. However, there are no clear timescales, priority action planning or delegated tasks associated with the identified actions. This has not delayed timely responses by leaders; however, this approach can make progress difficult to track and monitor for leaders and regulators.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last full inspection, leaders have received three complaints from neighbours regarding staff not managing antisocial behaviour and disturbances from children effectively. Managers have acted quickly to respond to these, which includes an increase in senior leadership presence in the home. A local counsellor is organising a committee meeting to discuss these recent concerns. Senior leaders say that they welcome this approach and opportunity to meet with neighbours in this planned way. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2682262 3 There are lots of examples of staff speaking to children about staying healthy and leading a healthy lifestyle. There is evidence of staff signposting children to external services to promote their health and well-being, for example attending routine health appointments, daily exercise, and device management to help improve sleep hygiene. This is having positive outcomes for one child. As a result, the requirement
