p.1

The provision is good

Children are warmly welcomed by this very experienced childminder, who is committed to providing childhood experiences that build on their learning and help them to make new friendships. The childminder is calm, kind and caring. She gives high priority to children's personal, social and emotional well-being. Children have strong bonds with the childminder who is highly skilled and sensitive in helping them to form secure relationships with her and their peers. Her nurturing and calm nature helps them feel safe and secure.

p.2

The provision is good

The setting has a strong curriculum that is based on the children's needs and interests. Children are happy, confident and ready to learn. They show high levels of excitement and self-esteem while playing. The children follow instructions very well and use their prior knowledge and understanding to think critically. For example, children work together to build the road for the toy diggers and take turns fitting the pieces together. This supports children to learn to play cooperatively as they develop an understanding of their own needs and the needs of others. The childminder is a good role model. She encourages children to share, take turns, respect one another and play together well. She gives clear guidance about how she expects them to behave and reinforces positive behaviour with praise.

n The childminder skilfully extends children's communication and language development. She uses a wide vocabulary and ensures that children understand any new words. For example, she encourages children to test out which fruits 'float' or 'sink'. The childminder expertly supports children to take turns in conversation and listen to their peers. As a result of these high-quality opportunities, children develop as confident and interested communicators. n Children have various opportunities to develop their physical skills. Outdoors, they confidently lift the large road planks and build walls with foam bricks, developing their large-muscle skills . At snack time, children show their developing coordination and small-muscle skills as they peel and chop fruit. This supports physical development and prepares children well for their future learning. n Children's independence is encouraged as they attempt to do things for

themselves and helps to build their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder provides younger children with opportunities to feed themselves at snack time and talks to children about the importance of eating a healthy diet. However, on occasions, routines do not consistently enable children to participate and develop their independence further. For example, when putting on their own coats and wellington boots, the childminder intervenes too quickly.
