p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children thrive in the care of this very experienced childminder. She knows the children extremely well and expertly plans an innovative and stimulating curriculum. The childminder has an excellent understanding of the importance of developing children's skills. She uses books in her planning, encouraging children to be excited to read stories. When she plans new learning experiences, she begins her teaching by sharing a book on the subject. This embeds children's understanding and excites them to want to learn more. For example, after reading the 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' story, children immerse themselves in role play, where they are very capable of retelling the story using props. This demonstrates that children are developing their listening skills and remembering more.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children have formed a very secure and trusting relationship with this kind and nurturing childminder. She is actively interested in supporting children's learning and enables them to make choices about their play, consistently supporting their ongoing development. The childminder incorporates mathematical learning into activities at all opportunities. Young children can say and identify the 'three bears' by size, show understanding of 'full' and 'empty' and have awareness of the bears' beds being 'too hard', 'too soft' and 'just right'.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder is an inspirational role model for children, who have extremely positive attitudes to learning. Their behaviour is impeccable. They are learning to share and show kindness at all times. The childminder encourages both younger and older children to play together, supporting them to develop awareness of each others' needs. Younger children excitedly talk to the childminder about their friends at school, and they look forward to walking to school to pick them up.

The childminder's high quality and consistent teaching helps children make rapid progress in their development. n The childminder is an excellent role model for children's communication and language. She ensures that she provides a language-rich environment, encouraging conversations, asking questions and explaining words. Young children show they have a very good vocabulary, and remember and talk about past events. For example, they cheerfully recall their walk following the 'Gruffalo Trail' and excitedly talk about finding a snake on the trail. The childminder demonstrates a love for storytelling and is very animated, captivating children's

Children are encouraged to put their own shoes and coats on. She supports early toilet training for young children exceptionally well, preparing them by lots of talking and role playing with dolls using the potty. The childminder sensitively asks for permission from children to check if their nappy needs changing. This helps children to learn personal safety with their bodies. n Partnerships with parents are excellent. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their child's development through daily feedback and sharing her assessments with them. Parents' feedback is remarkable. For example, comments include that the childminder has excellent communication and day trips to Kew Gardens or the 'Gruffalo Trail' have enriched their children's

understanding of the world, sparking curiosity about nature and storytelling. n The childminder is extremely committed to enhancing her continuous professional development. She holds a recognised childcare qualification and demonstrates her passion for continually reflecting on ways of improving her knowledge of teaching and childcare issues. She attends a wide variety of webinars and training, and looks at how she can improve her practice and teaching following these courses. n The childminder has very good knowledge of recognising when children need additional support, and she communicates closely with parents and other professionals. This ensures that all children, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are fully supported in their early development to make the progress of which they are capable. n The childminder provides children with extensive opportunities to learn about

their community. They regularly visit local toddler and childminder groups and the library. This supports children to develop an understanding of differences and similarities in the community and enables them to have a wider circle of friends to play and learn to share with. Children receive lots of praise and encouragement from the childminder and learn about using good manners. This supports them to develop good social skills for when they are ready for school and later life.
