p.1

The provision is good

The childminder offers a welcoming and homely environment, which positively supports children's well-being. Younger children develop strong relationships with the childminder and feel confident and content in her care. For example, they confidently look to the childminder to join in with their play throughout the day and seek cuddles from the childminder as needed. Younger children are excited to receive praise from the kind and caring childminder for their achievements. This helps children to boost their self-esteem and supports them to behave well.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of child development and knows children in her care well. Overall, the childminder provides a broad and well- sequenced curriculum and focuses on children's individual needs and interests. For instance, she has identified that younger children are engaged in their play for long periods of time as they enjoy playing with the cars and bricks. The childminder extends younger children's learning as she teaches them to count the cars, identify objects and problem solve by fitting bricks in boxes. Children make good progress from their starting points in learning.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder organises the resources so that younger children can become confident and independent from a young age. For example, younger children choose the toys they want to play with, help to tidy up and learn to feed themselves independently. They know that they need to wash their hands carefully before meals. This helps younger children to guide their own learning and manage their self-help skills effectively.

n The childminder prioritises younger children's speech and language skills effectively, to help them to increase their vocabulary and become confident talkers. She gets down to children's level, makes good eye contact and speaks to them clearly. Younger children enjoy choosing their favourite books and listen to the childminder read and sing songs to them. This helps children to build good communication skills from a young age, including children who speak English as an additional language. n The childminder carefully considers the activities and experiences that she provides children. She has a range of resources to stimulate children's interests and extend their learning. However, the childminder does not consistently enhance younger children's creative and exploratory play, such as by providing a wide variety of materials and textures. n The childminder is a good role model. Younger children respond well to the

For example, she reads children books about feelings and good manners to help them to express their feelings. n The childminder supports children's health and well-being well. She works closely with parents to ensure that they provide their children with healthy lunches. The childminder provides children with healthy snacks and fresh drinking water. She ensures that children regularly play outdoors to benefit from exercise and strengthen their small and large muscles effectively as they play. n The childminder takes children on regular visits to soft-play areas, toddler groups and walks within the community. She gives children opportunities to socialise well with other children from different backgrounds. The childminder plans activities for children around a range of religious and cultural events throughout the year. This helps to widen children's experiences and knowledge

of the world around them. n The childminder works effectively with parents and other professionals. Parents' written comments are highly positive about the good quality of care and education the childminder provides to their children. The childminder keeps parents well informed of their children's progress in a range of ways, such as daily discussions, and provides parents with ideas to extend their children's learning at home. This helps children to progress to their next stage of learning. n The childminder evaluates her practice effectively. She meets up with other childminders in the area to share knowledge and good practice. The childminder is committed to her own personal development and actively pursues training opportunities to implement new ideas. She continuously looks for ways to improve the quality of her practice to offer children good experiences and opportunities.
