The provision is good
The childminder has a warm, kind and calm approach to teaching. Her extensive knowledge of how children learn and develop enables her to plan a curriculum that is enticing and exciting for young children. She places a strong emphasis on supporting children's communication and language development. The childminder has an extremely good awareness of how to support children when they learn English alongside their home language. Her extensive use of narration, questions and naming means children hear a vast array of language as they play. In turn, this encourages their own speech and language development. Young children become absorbed in activities, sustain their attention and are enthusiastic about learning. They smile broadly as they play and repeat things that fascinate them, such as posting pom-poms into a box and sorting coloured balls. These activities contribute towards children developing good hand-eye coordination and an awareness of

need to do better?
n The childminder uses her good knowledge of different approaches and theories of child development to craft a unique and interesting curriculum. She encourages children to learn through being active, exploring nature and interacting with animals. This helps children to gain an understanding about the world they live in and encourages them to be empathetic and caring. The childminder's very good understanding about children's potential for learning and brain development leads her to have high ambition for all children. n The childminder organises her provision to meet the needs of young children. For example, she considers children's physical development when planning how to arrange activities and resources. Favourite toys and equipment are placed on higher shelves as children become confident at standing. This encourages them to stretch and stand, developing their core muscles, strength and balance.
p.2
need to do better?
n Children show impressive levels of engagement given their young age and sustain their interest and attention when they play. They learn at their own pace, and the childminder takes a cue from them before moving them on. As a result, children follow their play to conclusion, meaning they are ready and willing to start new activities, eat their lunch or sleep. The routine is consistent, familiar and understood by young children, giving them a sense of security as things are

13 November 2024 predictable. n The childminder respects and acknowledges children's diversity and their home backgrounds. Her support for children with English as an additional language is exceptional, and she ensures that children quickly develop a good understanding and use of English. However, she does not always encourage everyday opportunities for children to learn about each other's family backgrounds and experiences. This would promote their awareness of why some children speak other languages, so they value what makes them all unique and individual. n The childminder has an excellent attitude towards ongoing professional development and improvement. Consequently, she is continually looking at ways that she can enhance her knowledge and translate this into improving and evolving her curriculum. This leads to her successful teaching and children's enjoyable experiences. n The childminder displays a comprehensive understanding about safeguarding

matters, including signs and symptoms that might indicate children are at risk of harm and what action to take if she has a concern about children's welfare. She supervises children closely and undertakes effective risk assessments. Therefore, she shows a strong capacity to keep children safe in her care. n Parents are very appreciative of the care that the childminder provides. They describe her as kind and caring and value the wide range of activities children enjoy outside of the home, such as visiting zoos and parks. Parents feel very well informed about children's progress and development as the childminder effectively communicates what children need to learn next. Therefore, parents know how they can support children's good progress at home.
