Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Hillgate Health Group Ltd 1 Hillgate Health Group Ltd
p.1
Registered provider: Hillgate Health Group Ltd
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
provider
The supported accommodation service is operated by a private provider in the north of England.
p.1
provider
The provider can accommodate up to eight individuals in shared or group-living accommodation in premises used to accommodate only looked after children and care leavers.
p.1
provider
Five children whose needs were within the scope of the regulations were being accommodated at the time of this visit. Three children have left the accommodation since the service was registered.
p.1
provider
The service manager has been registered with Ofsted since April 2024.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted carried out this monitoring visit in response to concerns around the management of incidents in the home, staff oversight and the level of support being offered to children.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children said that they felt happy and safe in their accommodation. They also said that staff help them to prepare for independent living by regularly having key-work sessions. This means that children are able to manage when they move on from their accommodation and live independently.
p.1
This monitoring visit
One child commented on the positive relationships they have with staff in their home. Another child who had recently moved into the home said that they were made to feel welcome by the staff team. This helps children to settle into their new accommodation and feel supported. Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Hillgate Health Group Ltd 2 Staff ensure that the accommodation provides a homely environment for children to live in. They carry out regular inspections of the property and report maintenance work quickly. This helps to maintain a good standard of accommodation for children.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff said that they feel supported by leaders and managers. They attend regular training and supervision sessions with their managers, to equip them with the skills required to support children. Staff also say senior managers are visible in the home and they value their experience and expertise.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers assess children’s vulnerabilities at the point of referral. Local authorities provide staff with detailed information which they use to inform a robust risk management and support plan. Staff review plans monthly and actively involve children, with children’s views documented. This means that children are well supported in their transition to adulthood.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff are skilled in using de-escalation techniques to manage incidents. Reports are clearly written and show clear management oversight and debriefs with the staff team. However, the provider does not report serious incidents to Ofsted. This means the regulator has no initial oversight of what action staff take to keep children safe. Furthermore, leaders and managers do not notify Ofsted of all directors who are involved in the running of the service and in decision-making. This means that the regulator does not have up-to-date information about those people who are involved in the running of the service.
