The provision is good
Children are well looked after by this kind and experienced childminder. She provides an ambitious and varied curriculum for children and plans different activities that are designed to be stimulating, such as through sensory play. For example, toddlers carefully explore the texture of different materials associated with the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. Children squeeze play dough and add sticks, wool and bricks to build a house. The childminder further supports children to take turns and share resources. They engage with the activity for extended periods, helping to strengthen the developing muscles in their hands.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder ensures that children take part in regular outings designed to help them broaden their experience of the world and develop their social skills. For instance, they visit local toddler groups and visit local farms and countryside, as part of the celebration of harvest. The childminder provides frequent opportunities for outdoor play and to access fresh air in her garden. Children concentrate as they experiment with sliding conkers and pine cones down sloping ramps. They blow bubbles to link with the story heard earlier, where the wolf from the story 'huffed and he puffed'. The childminder provides well-planned activities, and children are happy and become engrossed in their play.

need to do better?
n The childminder is loving and caring towards the children. They enjoy her cuddles, comfort and reassurance, particularly those who are conscious of unfamiliar faces. The childminder treats children with kindness and respect. This encourages children to feel safe, behave well and to show mutual affection for others. n The childminder encourages children to develop their mathematics skills effectively. They explore sensory materials and notice different shapes and patterns in their play. Children have fun as the childminder skilfully weaves mathematical language and concepts into their play. For example, she encourages the children to count objects and notice different orders of size as they explore play dough, challenging them well. n The childminder has clear expectations of children's behaviour. When they display unwanted behaviour, the childminder gently reminds them of the expectations. For example, she gives children clear instructions, such as, 'Do not

play with the door,' and 'Make sure you wash your hands.' Children respond positively to the clearly embedded expectations. However, the childminder does not consistently provide a clear explanation of why the behaviour rules are in place to fully support their understanding of how behaviour can potentially affect themselves or others. n Children benefit from learning about their local community and different

6 November 2024 cultures. They enjoy finding autumn treasures, such as coloured leaves. They have recently learned about a variety of events, such as Halloween and enjoyed learning about cultural and religious festivals, such as Diwali. n The childminder has formed excellent relationships with parents and families, and parents are very complimentary about the care and education that their children receive. Partnership with parents is a strength. n The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date, and she can identify areas of her practice that she would like to enhance further. For example, she attends regular webinars led by specialist experts in early years. Additionally, the childminder uses her childminding network to share and discuss ideas. She uses these to develop areas of learning and to improve the quality of care that she provides for children.
