p.1

The provision is good

Children thoroughly enjoy spending time with the friendly and caring childminder, who creates strong bonds with children. She has thorough induction procedures when a child starts with her, and she gains important information from parents about children's routines at home. This helps children settle quickly in her care. The childminder provides children with nurturing cuddles when they seek comfort or reassurance, helping children to feel safe and secure. The childminder is a positive role model, and she has high expectations of children. For example, she praises children regularly for using good manners and reinforces the expectation of kind words and kind, caring hands.

p.2

The provision is good

Children make good progress from their starting points, and the childminder monitors their progress regularly to ensure that she is building on what the children already know and can do. The childminder takes children on many, varied outings to support them to mix with different people, experience new things and develop knowledge of the world they live in. They go to local parks, music groups, community stay-and-play sessions, and regularly meet with other children and childminders.

n Children gain positive attitudes to learning. They have opportunities during the day to choose their own learning and who they play with. Children develop positive relationships and relish playing alongside each other. The childminder animatedly shares familiar stories and songs with children. This helps them to develop their confidence, as well as their listening and attention skills. Her enthusiastic approach is warm and engaging. n The childminder provides a range of activities and opportunities that reflect children's current interests. The childminder plays alongside children. As a result of her high level of involvement and interest, children become engrossed in their play. For example, they concentrate carefully for a long time as they make tall flowers with stems of building blocks. Children develop their control and hand- eye coordination as they create. n The childminder keeps her mandatory training up to date. She shows a good

understanding of the importance of professional development. She attends regular webinars and training sessions. The childminder uses any newly acquired knowledge and understanding to keep her practice up to date and best support children in her care. For example, she is developing her knowledge of early mathematics, and this leads to her using more mathematical language with the children as they play. n The childminder promotes children's independence as a priority. She skilfully adapts the level of support she provides to match children's individual needs.

need to do better?

7 November 2024 The childminder uses her comprehensive knowledge of each child to make sure they receive the help they need to be successful in tasks. When children ask for help, the childminder calmly explains that she is helping them by showing them what they need to do. She asks them to watch her and to listen to her instructions. The childminder is quick to praise children when they then succeed. n Children learn to take turns. The childminder supports them to play together and share. The childminder supports children's communication with their peers. She models taking turns and praises children when they show kindness in their play. Children clap each other's efforts and think of their friends' feelings. Children beam with delight when their efforts are congratulated. n The childminder exposes children to a wide vocabulary as they play. She introduces new language as she shares stories. This helps develop a love of

books and promotes children's early literacy skills. As children enjoy taking part in a movement song with actions, the childminder repeats the body parts from the song and encourages children to move the corresponding body parts at the right time in the song. The childminder's interactions support learning for all children. However, younger children's communication and language development is not optimised as they do not receive frequent interactions that match their age and stage of learning. n Parents speak positively about the childminder. They appreciate the care and nurturing environment that the childminder provides for their children. Parents feel well informed of their children's progress and feel supported by the childminder when they ask for support or guidance on developing effective sleep, feeding or behaviour-management routines at home. This helps to provide continuity in children's care and learning.
