p.1

The provision is good

All children thrive in this setting. They are socially confident and independent learners. The childminder designs a curriculum that builds on children's existing knowledge and skills. She also fosters close relationships with children, which supports their emotional well-being effectively. Parents agree that the childminder makes their children 'feel loved and safe'. The childminder actively promotes the development of each child's uniqueness. For instance, she encourages children to speak their home languages within the setting. Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, feel valued and respected.

The provision is good

The childminder sets high expectations for children's learning. She implements various strategies to support children's behaviour, including the use of an 'emotion dragon'. This helps children to manage their feelings and emotions. For example, children can cuddle the 'emotion dragon' for comfort, which helps them to feel calmer. Children play happily together, which is evident when they explore wooden toy bricks. They spend a significant amount of time concentrating on their creations and announce excitedly, 'Look at what I made'. The childminder provides plenty of praise and encouragement for children's efforts. Children demonstrate positive attitudes and enjoy their play.

They are very pleased with the childminder's efforts in supporting their children's development. However, the childminder has yet to establish partnerships with other childcare providers. This limits her ability to provide a more consistent approach to meeting children's care and learning needs.

29 October 2024 new challenges for them. n The childminder's curriculum is ambitious and well planned. She is very good at promoting children's understanding of numbers. Children learn to count and solve simple numerical problems. This enhances children's early mathematical skills in preparation for school. n Children are creative and imaginative learners. They often engage in role-play scenarios to express their understanding. The childminder joins in and supports children in acting as shopkeepers in an optician's office. This contributes to children's enjoyment during play. n The childminder continues to enhance her professional development. For example, she has increased her knowledge of how to support children with additional learning needs. This has had a positive impact on children's behaviour. Additionally, the childminder has learned how to use props effectively to enhance children's communication and language skills.

n The childminder organises various outings, including visits to local parks and playgroups. This promotes children's personal skills. Additionally, the childminder incorporates electronic devices into her curriculum to teach children about different topics. For instance, children watch a short video to learn about fireworks. This adds to children's understanding and it provides inspiration for related activities. n The childminder evaluates her practice rigorously to make positive improvements. For instance, since the last inspection, she has reviewed the curriculum for literacy. Following some changes, children now have more opportunities to practise their early reading and writing skills.
