p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for all children. She builds very positive and trusting relationships with them. The strong bond between children and the childminder shows that they feel safe and secure. The childminder is calm, caring and sensitive in her nature. She is a positive role model. She consistently encourages positive behaviour and good manners. The childminder always praises children for their achievements to help to support their self-esteem. Children show enjoyment and high levels of concentration as they eagerly join in. They have a very positive attitude to their learning. For example, they keenly mix ingredients when they help to bake cookies.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder follows children's lead and interests when planning opportunities and experiences for them. She plans lots of outdoor activities to help to promote children's sense of self in the local community, good health and social skills. For example, the childminder plans regular trips to museums to help children learn about the world around them, and they go to weekly toddler groups and for regular swimming sessions. This means that children access a variety of opportunities that they may not have necessarily experienced before, which enhances their learning experiences very well.

need to do better?

n The childminder has high expectations for all children. Overall, she plans an ambitious curriculum that focuses on preparing children for school. For example, the childminder consistently engages in conversation with children on their journey to school, and she encourages them to keep themselves safe, such as by observing road safety. The childminder develops links with the schools that children also attend, to ensure consistency in their care, learning and safety. n School-age children appreciate their short time with the childminder, and they quickly find activities they enjoy. The childminder knows all children very well and provides activities that she knows they will enjoy. For example, children concentrate as they make marks on large wipe boards and exclaim, 'I have made wiggly lines!' Children behave very well and have positive attitudes to their learning and enjoyment. n Young children frequently demonstrate new knowledge learned. For example,

they remember 'cinnamon powder' and excitedly say 'cook'. The childminder introduces new words, such as 'vanilla' and 'scales', to help to extend young children's vocabulary well. n Children thoroughly enjoy baking cookies with the childminder. The childminder skilfully watches and responds to children to maximise their learning experiences. She consistently demonstrates good teaching skills and provides good-quality, inclusive care and education to all children.

need to do better?

22 October 2024 n The childminder introduces mathematical language when weighing ingredients. She encourages children to count spoonfuls of flour, and she points to the numbers on weighing scales. This helps to further support children's early mathematical skills and help them to focus on their learning. n Overall, the childminder promotes children's confidence and independence well. However, there are occasions when the childminder does not encourage children to carry out tasks, including feeding themselves and washing their hands independently. This means that children's self-help skills are not fully supported. n The childminder frequently shares information about children's learning and routines with parents. She does this through regular communication. Parents state that they are extremely happy with the care and learning that their children receive. They say that their children see the childminder's home as their

second home. n The childminder understands the importance of assessing children's learning, to meet requirements and identify what children need to learn next. This helps to support all children who need extra help, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Generally, the childminder identifies what children need to learn next. However, this is not always specific enough to help ensure that children make the best possible progress in all areas of their learning. n The childminder is committed to her professional development. For example, following training, she has enhanced her knowledge and skills further and has recently embarked on training to help to maximise children's healthy lifestyles.
