p.1

The provision is good

The childminder understands the children in her care and knows how to help them develop and learn. She considers activities and resources that are of interest to the children and that support their development effectively. The childminder is organised in her approach to children's learning and bases her decisions for planning future activities on her observations of children when playing. For example, young children are able to build on their prior knowledge of numbers and counting as the childminder engages them in an activity that encourages them to recognise numbers on cards. All children make good progress from their individual starting points.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are confident and have a good level of self-esteem. For instance, they are happy to tell the inspector what they like to eat and what they have had for breakfast. The childminder offers encouragement to support children's self- confidence and responds sensitively to their individual needs. The childminder promotes children's independence and personal care routines. For example, children are encouraged to use the toilet facilities independently to wash their hands regularly. The childminder has clear boundaries for all children, and she is a good role model. Children behave well.

For example, the childminder supports children with counting items by using their fingers to point. n The childminder encourages children to access various resources to support their development. For example, children play with the building blocks, and the childminder uses this opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of colours as well as numbers. She does this by asking the children about the colours of objects as they count them. n Although the childminder engages with the children and encourages their communication and language skills, this is not always done consistently. This means that some opportunities to have conversations that would expand
