p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a safe, warm, home from home environment for children. Children are confident within the setting; they happily navigate the well thought out activities and experiences the childminder has provided as part of her ambitious curriculum. The childminder has developed secure and positive relationships with children. They eagerly call her name to show her structures they have made from magnetics blocks or climb onto her lap for a quick cuddle between activities.

p.2

The provision is good

The behaviour of children is good. Children are beginning to play cooperatively together; they call for others to come and join them as they get scarfs out for a game of peek-a-boo. The childminder supports children when they find sharing resources difficult, sitting alongside them and facilitating each child to have an opportunity to join in.

p.2

The provision is good

Children receive lots of praise and encouragement from the childminder. She demonstrates to children how to complete more trickier tasks and then allows children to try independently, problem solving and developing resilience in their own capabilities. Children show pride in their achievements, clapping their hands with delight as they master a new skill. A 'wow wall' allows children to develop high self esteem as they see their accomplishments displayed.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows her children well. Children development is accurately tracked, and the childminder talks with confidence about the progress children have made. The childminder ensures children are regularly challenged to help them master what it is they need to learn next. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning. n The childminder is skilled at following children's interests to promote their learning in all areas of development. Following children's love of sharks, the childminder creates a tuft tray of sharks and other sea experiences. Children use mathematical language as they count the buried treasure they have found. They match patterns to pair up different animals and their babies. Children use tools and display good hand eye coordination as they dig for treasure and create their own magical sandcastles. n Overall, the childminder promotes children's language well. The childminder

provides a narrative to children's play, introducing contextual language and asking questions to check children's understanding. However, on occasion and especially with younger children, the childminder tends to simplify or use baby language instead of the correct pronunciation of words. For example, using 'ta' instead of 'thank you' and 'dum dum' instead of 'dummy'. n Children enjoy sharing stories with the childminder. The childminder provides

23 October 2024 children with a range of books, both fiction and factual. Children are excited to look together at a book about sharks. They share their knowledge about the different types of sharks. Music and movement also form part of children's daily learning. Children independently get out the musical instruments and sing along together to familiar nursery rhymes such as 'wind the bobbin up' and 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. n The childminder presents children with a variety of learning opportunities outside the setting that widen their experience of their local community and the world around them. Children visit playgroups to socialise with other children. They visit the library on Tuesdays and Thursday for story and rhyme time. Children excitedly talk about 'chino Tuesday' where they stay at the library after the reading session and enjoy a baby chino in the café area. Children make the most of the local green space going on regular nature walks and building dens in the

local woods. n Partnership with parents is good. Parents comment on the excellent level of communication the childminder provides. Parents describe how their children have grown in confidence and how well the childminder caters not only to their developmental needs but also knows their individual interests and personalities. n The childminder continues to be reflective in her practice to ensure she is meeting the expectations of parents and children within her care. The childminder is proactive in continuing to enhance her own professional development and engages in courses that help her provide new learning opportunities for children.
