Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The manager makes child-centred decisions and when a child is to move into or out of the home, children’s wishes and feelings are considered. This helped one child to settle soon after they moved into the home. When one child moved out, staff continued to support them until they were settled in their new home.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Staff understand how children’s past experiences have an impact on their lives today. Staff have started to build relationships with the child at a pace that the child is comfortable with. The child responds to the strong structure and boundaries in place and to the consistent and nurturing care that they receive.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The manager and staff understand when children struggle to access formal education. There is a plan in place for the child to receive home tuition and staff work in partnership with education professionals to find a suitable school. Staff provide structure to the day and opportunities for informal learning.
p.3

The child is in good physical health. A balanced healthy diet, physical exercise, and positive routines help the child to maintain this. Staff support the child to attend health appointments, which means that they access the right support and treatment.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child is consulted with regularly about the running of the home and the care that they receive. Records show that the child’s wishes and feelings are listened to and acted on.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Detailed risk assessments identify all known risks to the child and they provide clear guidance for staff. Staff understand the child’s individual vulnerabilities and risks and they know the steps to follow to reduce some of those risks.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
The child benefits from a high level of supervision and support from staff. Since moving into this home, the child has not been missing from care.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
When the child struggles to manage their emotions, staff respond and support the child well. This means there are very few incidents. There has been one occasion relating to online safety, which placed the child and others at risk. Staff respond to the child sensitively and they access a range of resources to educate the child about risks.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff do not need to physically hold the child to keep them and others safe. They also do not use consequences. This is because staff talk to the child about risks and they have discussions about the difficult emotions that can lead to unwanted behaviour. Inspection report for children’s home: 2577014 4
