The provision is good
The childminder builds strong and trusting relationships with children. She shares plenty of laughter with children that reflects their enjoyment of her company. Children are happy and safe in the setting. The childminder communicates the daily routine to help children to understand what is expected of them, including appropriate behaviour. Children play well together and use polite manners. The childminder supports children's learning at home effectively. For instance, she guides parents in helping children to manage their hygiene and toileting needs. The childminder takes children to parks and playgroups to teach them to socialise with others in different situations.

The provision is good
The childminder creates a personalised curriculum to help children to gain essential skills. For example, after observing children's play, she organises activities that promote their fine motor skills. During a threading activity, children show high levels of perseverance, strengthening the muscles in their hands and fingers. This aids children's emerging writing and drawing skills. Children enjoy using their imaginations and initiating role-play activities. They have fun exploring a doctor's set, pretending to listen to each other's heartbeats. Children also delight in playing with dolls. The childminder enhances children's play by providing a variety of toys and resources. This keeps children motivated and engaged.

This has a positive impact on children's emotional well-being. n The childminder observes and assesses children's learning precisely. She uses this information to identify and address gaps in children's learning, such as in their physical skills. All children, including bilingual learners and those who receive funding, make significant progress from their starting points in development. n The childminder's curriculum is specifically designed to prepare children for school. For example, she promotes children's social skills and builds their confidence. The childminder interacts with children and uses a wide range of vocabulary to support their language development. However, sometimes, she moves on too fast, and does not give children enough time to think and answer

22 October 2024 events to enhance her knowledge and skills. After attending a webinar, the childminder has gained a better understanding of how to identify and manage children's behaviour more positively. As a result, children have become calmer and can concentrate better. This is evident, for instance, in how well they engage during role-play activities. n Children develop their independence and self-help skills effectively. For instance, they tidy up the toys after using them, demonstrating care for their environment. Additionally, children are very good at remembering to wash their hands at appropriate times. This practice supports their health and helps to minimise the spread of cross-contamination. n The childminder turns snacks and mealtimes into enjoyable social occasions. She joins children at the table and engages them in conversation. Children receive good supervision, which helps them to feel safe and secure.

need to do better?
n Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and describe her as 'professional' and 'warm' in her approach. They are delighted with how the childminder communicates their children's progress with them. However, the childminder has not yet fully considered how to involve parents in the self- evaluation process. n The childminder organises fun and creative activities for children to explore colours. For example, she encourages children to paint on slices of bread to enable them to experience different textures. Children learn to recognise colours, such as orange and red, and to match them with everyday objects. These opportunities nurture children's creativity and understanding of the world around them.
