p.1

The provision is good

Children play with interest and excitement at the childminder's home-from-home setting. Children feel safe and secure as they cuddle with the childminder. They talk together about the different activities they will be doing. Children enjoy the outdoor space as they create games with different toy vehicles. The childminder joyfully supports children's play. She offers imaginative ideas and introduces words such as 'excavator'.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder encourages children to behave well. She does this by consistently reminding children of important rules. When children play together, she reminds them of simple expectations. This includes rules such as using 'kind hands' and taking turns with toys. Children develop a good level of respect for adults and other children.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides children with options so that they can follow their own interests. She plays closely with children to develop their learning and broaden their language skills. For example, when young children explore a farm tray activity, the childminder introduces words such as 'hay' and 'cow'. She provides older children with information, such as which animals produce milk. Children learn new words and gain knowledge from activities.

need to do better?

n Children develop a good understanding of numbers and counting. The childminder provides them with opportunities to count objects and pictures. The childminder extends this learning throughout children's play. For example, when children play with magnet shapes, she encourages them to name each one. The childminder asks children to consider the properties of shapes, such as the number of sides. This helps to develop children's early mathematical skills. n Overall, the childminder's curriculum is clear and supports the areas of learning well. Children access learning experiences that focus on the next steps in their education. However, the learning intentions for literacy are less ambitious. Therefore, at times, activities and experiences are not created to target this area of learning for older children. n Children benefit from a range of experiences that broaden their physical abilities. For example, the childminder takes children to a gymnastics session where they

practise skills that increase balance and coordination. Furthermore, the childminder takes children to local parks to climb and use a range of equipment. The childminder uses these opportunities to support children to manage their own risks. Children's physical development is promoted. n Children remain engaged in activities for long periods. For example, they show focus as they accurately use hammers to tap pegs into pumpkins. The

need to do better?

21 October 2024 childminder continues the activity and provides pens for children to decorate their pumpkins. Children's attitudes to learning are increased through activities that interest them. n Parents speak highly of the childminder. They discuss the detailed information they receive about their child's progress. The childminder provides parents with access to an online system. This gives parents information to support children's learning at home. Partnerships with parents are strong. n Children's personal development is of high priority to the childminder. The childminder provides children with ample opportunities to do tasks for themselves. For example, older children confidently prepare different fruits and vegetables for snack time. The childminder increases children's knowledge of personal safety. She gently explains the importance of cutting grapes in a certain way. Children gain important knowledge and try hard with their activities.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder carries out rigorous risk assessments for outings. For example, when visiting new locations, she considers factors that may affect children's safety. The childminder has secure equipment for children to ensure their safety during trips. Safety arrangements are robust. n The childminder is highly focused on her own professional development. She accesses extensive training to raise her safeguarding knowledge to a high level. The childminder regularly engages in training to continually increase her knowledge of early years education. For example, she has recently received training to support children's understanding of online safety. As a result, the childminder consistently raises the quality of her teaching for children.
