p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC472795 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

This inspection took place following Ofsted receiving a complaint and an increase in safeguarding notifications.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have good relationships with staff and can name someone they will turn to if they need something. Laughter is commonplace between the staff and children, which makes the home a welcoming place to be.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s risk assessments are up to date and provide staff with the information they need about each child’s strengths and vulnerabilities. This means that staff know the children well and can respond to them in a timely and effective way.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Not all children are engaging with their education. When a child’s educational placement is not meeting their needs, staff advocate for the children. This gives children the best possible opportunity to make progress with their learning.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff are supported by an in-house therapeutic residential worker to better understand the impact of children’s life experiences. This helps the staff to tailor their approach and focus on how best to meet the needs of the children in their care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

On two occasions, concerns have been raised about practice in the home. The manager has informed all appropriate professionals, including Ofsted. A clear allegations management process is followed, and the manager carries out an investigation. The investigation is child focused and robust, which ensures that children are safeguarded effectively.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has systems in place to monitor and review the quality of care provided to the children. However, there is no system in place to record the views of children or demonstrate how those views shape practice in the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Not all staff have achieved the required qualification within the necessary time frame. Consequently, the children are not always being cared for by staff who are qualified for the role. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC472795 3
