The provision is good
Children are happy, settled and confident in the childminder's care. Her calm and patient manner encourages children to settle quickly. The childminder creates a warm and positive environment, where children are keen to play and learn. Children demonstrate strong bonds with the childminder as they choose to sit next to her and play. Children enjoy exploring the environment. For example, children eagerly clean the 'dirty' teeth during an oral health activity as they eagerly talk about the tooth fairy.

The provision is good
The childminder plans a curriculum that appeals to children's interests. She ensures that children can make choices in their play and learning. For example, children can access a variety of attractive toys and books. The childminder provides opportunities for children to use their imaginations and develop their own ideas. need to do better?
n The childminder provides a broad and interesting curriculum for the children in her care. She collects information from parents and works closely with other settings the children attend. The childminder observes children's play and identifies what they need to learn next and how she will support children's development. However, occasionally, the childminder does not ensure that her interactions with children challenge their learning enough to build on what they already know and can do. n The childminder has interesting conversations with the children while she plays alongside them to support their language and communication skills. For example, she names resources as children engage in imaginative play. She models language as children play, describing what is happening and responding to the sounds babies make, to enhance their language development further. n The childminder promotes children's understanding of early mathematical

need to do better?
3 October 2024 encourage children's developing independence. For example, while she encourages children to make choices in their play, she does not support them to carry out small tasks, such as tidying away toys, and peeling fruit for snack. n Children have regular opportunities to develop their physical skills. They have plenty of space to move around indoors, and lots of fresh air as they play outdoors, using wheeled and ride-on toys. Children develop their large muscles and smaller muscles to prepare for future learning. For instance, children practise squashing and squeezing play dough to build their small-hand muscles. This supports children's early writing skills. n There are effective arrangements for working in partnership with parents. The childminder gives regular feedback to parents about children's development, their progress and the day they have just had. Parents complement the childminder's input in ensuring children make progress while in her care.
