p.1

The provision is good

The kind and caring childminder forms strong relationships with children in this setting. This supports children's emotional well-being and they joyfully enter her home excited for their day ahead. Children seek the childminder out for reassurance when needed. She skilfully helps children to self-regulate their emotions so they can continue playing happily. The childminder's calm nature creates a relaxed environment for children to flourish in. Children display high levels of engagement in their curiosity and play, which the childminder nurtures through her interactions with them.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans a curriculum based on what each child needs to develop, alongside the things they already love to do. For example, she uses cars to engage children to develop their mathematical skills. She counts the cars as children place them in their toy trolley. Children push the trolley around the setting and count the cars independently as they remove them. They develop their independence in this setting. From a young age, the childminder teaches children how to feed themselves, manage their own self-care, such as washing their hands, and independently choose the resources they want to play with. This supports children's self-confidence as they create a positive attitude towards new challenges and feel proud of what they can do.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has a deep knowledge of the children she cares for. She evaluates what children can do well and what she would like them to develop next. This helps children to progress in their learning and development. However, at times, the childminder does not precisely match activities to children's stage of development. For example, when leading a play dough activity with children of different ages, she does not plan how she will adapt this to fully extend all children's learning and build on their skills even further. Despite this, all children make good progress. n Children are well behaved in the setting. They follow the childminder's rules and boundaries, and she gently reminds children of these if needed. For example, the childminder quietly mentions that the toys are no longer in the basket and children come to help her put them back in. Children delight in giving one another toys to play with and share with their friends.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder plans for children's communication and language development well. All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress in this area. The childminder continually talks to children and encourages them to communicate back to her. She uses visual prompts to help all children to develop their understanding and communication skills. n All children are celebrated in this setting. Children learn to respect one another

They appreciate the range of activities the childminder provides and the child-centred environment she creates. They welcome the childminder's regular feedback on their children and recognise how well the childminder knows and understands their children. n The childminder understands the importance of her own professional development and the impact that this has on children. She regularly attends training courses that support her daily routine. The childminder reflects on her own practice through listening to podcasts and relevant articles. For example,

she recently read about the impact of labelling children and how this affects their view of themselves. She is now mindful of the power of her words and thinks carefully when discussing behaviour with children. n The childminder models how to maintain healthy lifestyles for all children. She provides healthy and nutritious meals and snacks, daily access to outdoor play and access to fresh drinking water. The childminder teaches children about making healthy choices around what they eat. She further develops this in the weekly international cookery sessions that are a highlight for children and their parents. These carefully planned sessions combine the key focus on healthy living with embracing diversity in the setting.
