p.1
The provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and nurturing environment, where children demonstrate that they feel safe and display a strong sense of belonging. The childminder builds trusting relationships with all children. He provides comfort and reassurance when children become upset or tired. This helps children to feel secure.
p.2
The provision is good
Children confidently access the resources and positively engage in their play. For example, children excitedly play with the dolls and pretend they are taking them to the shops. The childminder knows children well and he plans a curriculum that builds on their interests and what they need to learn next. He provides opportunities to support children's personal, social and emotional development well.
p.2
The provision is good
Children develop their early social skills as they learn how to play together and share their favourite toys. Children's behaviour is calm, and the childminder actively encourages them to be kind and respectful towards each other. For example, children share toys together and say please and thank you during mealtimes. Children receive praise and reassurance, which develops their confidence and good self-esteem.

need to do better?
n The childminder encourages children to be independent. Children become increasingly confident in managing their own self-care needs. They learn to use the toilet and wash their hands confidently. Furthermore, they put on their own shoes and cut up their fruit at meal times. This helps children to gain the necessary independence in readiness for school. n The childminder makes good use of his interactions to extend children's learning. For example, children use their imaginations to make dinner for the dolls. They enjoy filling and emptying bowls and talk about what they have made. The childminder introduces language such as 'scoop' and 'empty'. The children repeat these words back to him and then independently use these new words in their play. This helps to build on their vocabulary. n The children access a range of resources in the garden that supports their physical development. They play with balls, explore climbing equipment and

However, the childminder does not always consider the planning of some activities and how they can be adapted to ensure that older children benefit from extensive learning opportunities. n Children learn about different festivals and religious events. They explore a range of resources from different countries and cultures. This helps children to gain an understanding of similarities and differences between themselves and others. Children are beginning to develop their knowledge about the world they live in. n The childminder keeps his knowledge up to date. He identifies opportunities to enhance his professional development. For example, the childminder has recently completed training to help extend his understanding of children's different additional needs. The childminder is committed to enhancing his

knowledge and skills in order to impact positively on children's experiences and outcomes. n The childminder has good processes for the early identification of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). He completes assessments in a timely manner. The childminder uses early intervention strategies to further develop children's learning. Consequently, children with SEND make good progress. n Parents highly praise the childminder and the service he provides. They comment on the good progress their children make in his care, particularly with their communication, confidence and independence. Parents appreciate the information they receive about their children's learning and the ideas of how they can support their children's learning at home. This helps to promote a consistent approach to children's learning.
