p.1

The provision is good

Children are at the heart of this setting. They arrive smiling and politely say 'hello' to the childminder and their peers. The childminder is very warm and welcoming. She creates a dynamic and stimulating environment, offering children the opportunity to make their own choices of activities and resources to explore next. For example, children are mesmerised to explore mirrors to observe their reflection. They smile and point at facial features. This helps children build on their sense of self, which supports their emotional resilience.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is very nurturing and supportive to children's needs. She has high expectations of children and guides them to follow routines and boundaries with confidence. Children are positive and independent learners and explore their learning environment with ease. They are kind and gentle and show respect and consideration towards the childminder and their peers. For example, when the childminder kindly asks children to help tidy up, they immediately respond and help out, knowing where everything goes. The childminder also prompts the children to name the colours and match the blocks by colour as they pack them away. She praises them for their efforts, which helps them feel involved and appreciated during their time at this setting.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder understands the importance of ensuring that her setting is diverse and inclusive to meet all individual needs. She is very intuitive to children's needs and preferences and captures these in the planning of meaningful activities. The childminder provides a wide array of natural resources, such as shells, twigs and conkers, to enrich children's sensory experiences. Furthermore, she supports children who speak English as an additional language to be fully integrated and make progress in their learning. n The childminder has good knowledge and understanding of children's development. She tracks children's progress and completes relevant next steps in children's learning that she shares with the parents. On occasion, the planning is not effective enough to ensure that sufficient challenge is provided to extend children's learning and increase their active participation in activities. n The childminder provides good opportunities for children to further develop their

gross motor skills, balance and coordination. For example, in the garden, older children use slides with great control and confidence while younger children have fun exploring the see-saw. They laugh and giggle with excitement as they take turns using the apparatus available to strengthen their social interactions. n To build on children's problem-solving skills and critical thinking, the childminder encourages children to investigate the water wall. She clearly demonstrates how to pour water through the top pipes, and children follow instructions correctly.

p.2

need to do better?

9 October 2024 They are fascinated to observe how the water pours down through different pipes, before using cups to fill and empty into different containers. This also supports children's mathematical skills and hand-eye coordination. n Children enjoy singing and dancing to their favourite nursery rhymes. They confidently request to sing the song about sleeping bunnies. They follow the actions to pretend to be sleeping, and when prompted, they jump, hop and skip, displaying high levels of energy. Older children sing along to build on their language skills while younger children smile and clap their hands to the rhythm of the music. This also supports children to express themselves creatively. n The childminder has a clear vision for her setting. She is reflective and committed to self-development to deliver high-quality care and education. She has formed effective relationships with other settings the children attend and

The childminder often organises trips and outings to extend children's experiences and understanding of the world. n Partnerships with parents are excellent. They feel privileged to have such a warm and affectionate childminder to care and educate their children. Parents feel supported and involved in their children's learning and appreciate the progress their children have made.
