p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's health and safety are not prioritised. Leaders fail to address ongoing poor practice relating to hygiene, which compromises children's welfare. They fail to ensure that effective policies and procedures are always followed to maintain an acceptable standard of hygiene.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Despite these weaknesses, leaders and staff have shown a commitment to their professional development and making improvements to the quality of teaching. However, this is undermined by a poor regard for the promotion of children's health. This means that children do not gain a good education to support their attitudes to learning and understanding about healthy lifestyles. This said, leaders have a suitable overview of the curriculum in other aspects of children's development. They focus on helping children to make links in a variety of ways. For example, they provide babies with real images to accompany the animal puppets they enjoy using.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Staff are kind and attentive towards the children. They focus on listening carefully to what children say so they feel valued. This helps children to develop close bonds with staff. The babies are especially attached to their key person and choose when they want a reassuring cuddle. Staff provide children with gentle reminders relating to their behaviour, and children behave well.
p.2
need to do better?
n Leaders do not acknowledge or understand the weaknesses identified in the nursery. This shows a poor regard for the health and safety of children, robust monitoring of staff practice and commitment to making improvements across all aspects of the nursery. Although some improvements have been made, the overall quality of the nursery has declined since the last inspection. n Leaders fail to comply with the health and safety requirements to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for children. Cleaning products are stored in a cupboard that is accessible to children in the toddler room. This exposes them to potential harm. The children's toilets are unclean, and rubbish bins are not emptied from the previous day. Food waste, grime and grease remain in a sink in the baby room area. The condition of the cots is unsuitable, and the flooring in the baby room is not clean and contains debris. Soap is not readily available

for staff to use in the toddler room. The fridge that is used by the nursery to store children's food contains rotting fruit, and the juices have collected on the shelves of the fridge. The poor hygiene practices at the nursery put children's health at significant risk. n The weaknesses relating to health and safety practices have a negative impact on the quality of children's education and provision for their overall learning.
p.2
need to do better?
22 August 2024 Although the staff's teaching is generally strong, children's understanding of making healthy choices is unsupported. Drinking water is not always available for children to access in any of the three rooms. This means that children do not have consistent opportunities to learn about the importance of keeping hydrated and making independent choices about when they need a drink. n Leaders have taken effective action to improve partnership working with parents. Parents appreciate the information that staff share with them and find this helps them to support their children's development at home, such as with toilet training. n Staff know the children well, including their current interests. Overall, they assess children's progress and use this information to plan personally targeted learning experiences for each child. Children are engaged and motivated to play. They confidently access the wide selection of developmentally appropriate play

experiences in each of the three rooms. Pre-school children enjoy collaborative play. They share equipment and play cooperatively. n Leaders have a strategic approach for supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). This includes closely monitoring children for a period of six weeks to enable them to gather detailed information to share with outside agencies. Leaders allocate children one-to-one adult support where this is needed. n Staff make effective use of the on-site soft-play facilities. The curriculum shows clear progression, which identifies how the equipment will be used to support children through their development milestones. This helps children to build their large-muscle strength and movement.
