p.1
The provision is good
Children are excited to enter the warm and welcoming environment and greet their friends. They separate easily from their caregivers. They quickly settle into the familiar routine of the day. The children form strong bonds with the childminder and her assistants. Young children seek comfort when needed and the childminder works hard to learn about children's individual needs and preferences.
p.2
The provision is good
Children demonstrate positive attitudes to their play. They are busy exploring the environment and the range of exciting activities available. They know their favourite toys and where to find them. Children have opportunities to participate in periods of free play and focused adult-led activities.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder has high expectations for children's learning. When children begin to doubt their abilities, they encourage them to persevere and build the train tracks. They praise their achievements, and this contributes to their developing self-esteem.
p.2
The provision is good
Children have opportunities to follow their interests during their play. The childminder uses her observations of their learning to plan activities, which will help them to progress further. Her knowledge of individual children ensures activities are adapted accordingly and are inclusive to all.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder focuses her curriculum on developing children's communication and language skills and their social interactions. She uses her knowledge of children's starting points, to organise and plan the curriculum and the learning environment. She uses information from parents when children join the setting, to plan for children's next steps and individual learning goals. n Children have many opportunities to count during the routine of the day. They count each other as they wait to go outside and when waiting for lunch. They use counting rhymes to embed this further. In addition, children's mathematical development is further promoted as they use positional language during their play. They compare the sizes of their wet footprints on the patio. n The childminder promotes children's physical development, practising their catching and kicking skills, encouraging movement and turn taking. jump up and down to the action songs and rhymes. They develop their hand-eye coordination as they glue and stick. n Engaging and enthralling story telling holds children's interests. Staff extend children's learning by linking activities to the stories they have read. They recap on the details, talking about the fruit eaten by the hungry caterpillar as they eat snack.

need to do better?
25 September 2024 n The childminder supports children to understand their feelings and emotions. They use activities to talk about how children may feel sad and ways to help them calm down and regulate their behaviour. Children display good behaviour. The childminder reminds children about the use of good manners and being kind to their friends. They talk about using 'kind hands'. n Children learn about good hygiene practices. They know to wash hands after outdoor play and before eating. The childminder responds to runny noses quickly. The childminder talks to children about the importance of oral hygiene. Children talk about teeth brushing during circle time and recall their home experiences. They explore healthy food choices, continuing their focus on the books they have read. n Although there is some evidence of staff encouraging children's independence, staff do not consistently provide the tools and equipment to promote this further.
p.2
need to do better?
They fill up children's water cups and serve their fruit when children could attempt this for themselves. They too quickly put children's shoes and coats on. They do not build on daily routines to maximise opportunities to encourage further independence. n The childminder seeks feedback from parents to contribute to the evaluation of her setting. However, greater reflection is required to focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the setting, including on the childminder and her staff's future training and development plans. n Parents value the communication provided to tell them about their child's development. They know the next steps the childminder is focusing on and appreciate the information they are given to extend children's learning at home. Parents feel their children are making good progress in the setting.
