p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment for children. She maintains their safety and security at all times, including when crossing roads during walks. The childminder is skilful at supporting children's positive behaviour. Children show care and kindness towards others and their toys. The childminder gives children plenty of time and attention and checks on their well-being. Children express their high satisfaction by saying, 'I'm feeling happy'. The childminder also helps children develop a positive understanding of diversity. For example, she teaches children some words in her home language when they show an interest in it.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans an ambitious curriculum for children, with a current focus on nurturing their interest in numbers and colours. She contributes significantly to children's sustained high levels of engagement such as when they search for numbers in the garden. With the childminder's support, children have learned to recognise numbers from one to nine. She uses lots of repetitions to consolidate children's learning. Children develop strong early mathematical skills through play. The childminder plans activities, such as 'What's in the bag?', which ignites children's passion and motivation. Children sing enthusiastically and show a real thirst for learning. They are confident in initiating play and engaging in adult-led activities.

need to do better?

n The childminder has made a strong start since re-registering with Ofsted. She evaluates her practice rigorously to help children make good progress from their starting points. She is experienced and knowledgeable and shows genuine passion for her role in supporting children and their families. n The childminder has high expectations for children and delivers a well-planned and sequenced curriculum. She makes precise observations and assessments of children's learning. From the information collected, the childminder knows that children are confident speakers. However, she does not always take full advantage of opportunities to enhance and expand children's vocabulary. n The childminder's curriculum provides ample opportunities for children to develop a strong foundation in mathematics. Children have fun searching for, identifying and counting numbers in different ways. Additionally, the childminder

uses her strong teaching skills to incorporate colours, supporting children's learning in other areas. n The childminder completes training and liaises with other childminders to enhance her professional development. She has learned effective ways to support children's emotions and feelings. Parents report that this has had a positive impact on children, especially the older ones, who have gained the skills

18 September 2024 to express themselves. Younger children also demonstrate maturity and good behaviour. For instance, they handle books and toys with care. n Children benefit from healthy snacks and homemade meals, along with plenty of fresh air and exercise. The childminder takes them on nature walks and to playgroups, providing first-hand experiences such as trips to a sandy beach. This helps develop children's physical and social skills well. n The childminder works collaboratively with parents. She involves parents actively in children's learning and provides important information. Additionally, the childminder seeks information from parents about their children's experiences at home to inform her planning. Parents agree that they are fully informed about their children's care and education. They praise the childminder, who they describe as 'kind, caring and organised'. Parents also comment favourably on the

level of care and attention she provides to children. The strong partnership between the childminder and parents puts children in good stead in their education. n Children love to immerse themselves in imaginative play with toy animals. They use their imaginations to name, discuss and engage in role-play scenarios with the childminder. Through these activities, children demonstrate a strong sense of enjoyment and maintain positive attitudes. This fosters a supportive and nurturing environment for children's development. n The childminder works hard to get children ready for school. For example, she has been successful in raising children's self-confidence by exposing them to various experiences and people. However, the childminder sometimes performs simple tasks for children such as putting on or taking off their shoes. This does not fully promote children's independence skills.
