The provision is good
The childminder provides a friendly, nurturing environment. She engages children through her fun, enthusiastic interactions and planned activities. Children raise their hands in the air with excitement when they sing their favourite song, 'Baby Shark'. They learn through a broad curriculum that develops their sense of belonging and instils a positive attitude towards learning. Children focus on using their fingers precisely to slide bolts, undo catches and carefully twist open locks. They challenge themselves, sticking with a task even when it is difficult. The childminder joins in, providing a commentary that teaches children the vocabulary that describes their actions. Children smile proudly when they finally figure out how to unlock the wooden door.

The provision is good
Children feel safe. The childminder sensitively cares for their daily needs. When children are reluctant to join in, she adjusts activities so that all children can participate and benefit. The childminder uses simple signing alongside her speech to encourage young children's communication and give meaning to their efforts. She teaches them how to respect and value one another through her interactions. Children are polite and considerate of others. They settle quickly and enjoy playing alongside their friends. They wait their turn and share with each other.

need to do better?
n The childminder has created a clear and ambitious curriculum. She values children's curiosity and fosters their inquisitiveness, believing that, 'The more children ask, the more they learn.' Alongside this, she has considered how to build children's learning skills and attributes through daily routines. Children successfully take part in daily circle time, where they develop their confidence to concentrate for periods of time and contribute to a group. n The childminder teaches children the skills they need for play. She observes when children rely too much on digital entertainment and provides opportunities for them to develop their critical thinking skills. The childminder uses open- ended resources, such as recycled boxes, to spark children's imaginations. Children decide what to turn the boxes into, such as caves or rockets. n Children love singing. The childminder sings with them throughout the day.

need to do better?
Children take turns to pick out a toy from the song sack. They show their friends a 'fish' and join in, 'One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Once I Caught a Fish Alive'. The childminder asks questions and encourages children to join in with actions. She engages children's interests, and children follow her lead. However, occasionally, the childminder does not give some younger children enough time to listen and think, so they are not always able to respond. n The childminder knows children well. She assesses their skills and knowledge accurately and adjusts her teaching to fill any learning gaps. The childminder

She collaborates with education and health professionals and parents to establish effective support for children. The childminder supports families with empathy and a practical 'can-do' attitude to help prepare children for the next stages of learning. n Children benefit from daily exercise. They challenge themselves to balance on stepping stones, demonstrating increasing confidence in their ability to stand on uneven surfaces. The childminder takes children on regular walks through the woods and the park. Children engage with the local community. They buy seasonal flowers from the shops, which they use to inspire artwork. Children particularly enjoy observing the florist's window display, noticing changes to the seasons and discussing the textures and colours they see.
