p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy, settle quickly and immerse themselves in play. The childminder takes time to get to know the children and build positive relationships with them and their families. This helps children build a sense of belonging in the setting. Children like using their imaginations and recreate familiar experiences. For example, they pretend to make food such as fried egg and toast for themselves and others. They use plastic cooking utensils to place play food into a toy frying pan and stir it over and over until they think it is ready to eat. Children show pride in their achievements as they sit and pretend to eat the foods they have just made.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are supported well as they learn to understand their emotions and feelings. The childminder reminds them about the importance of sharing the toys and taking turns. She praises children when they do this, which helps build their self-esteem.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans a curriculum that takes account of the age and stage of the children's individual learning needs. As a result, children are interested and eager to become involved in the activities. Children are confident and make informed choices about their play because resources are stored safely and at low level.

need to do better?

n The childminder focuses on working in partnership with parents from the start. Children have several settling-in visits to become familiar with the new environment and to ensure that they feel safe and secure. Time spent gathering information from parents about their child, their needs, likes and development on entry means that the childminder can finely tune their learning. This ensures that they make the best progress from their individual starting points. n The childminder is keen to continually develop her knowledge and skills. She regularly accesses professional development opportunities around topics such as understanding and creating an effective learning environment. The childminder then uses what she has learned in the setting and shares new information with her co-childminder to ensure a consistent approach. n The childminder provides good support for children's health and well-being. benefit from plenty of fresh air and exercise, and they access the garden daily. Children follow good hygiene routines. They are encouraged to drink fresh drinking water throughout the day, and parents provide their child with a healthy packed lunch. The childminder talks to the children about the food they eat to build their awareness of foods that are good for their bodies. Children learn the importance of washing their hands throughout the day. The childminder supports children as they learn to wipe their noses. n Regular trips in the local area build children's knowledge of the community

20 September 2024 around them. Children enjoy visiting local parks and feeding the birds. The childminder has registered children at the library so that they are able to access a wider variety of books to share with their families. This supports their growing enjoyment of books and helps develop their use of language. n Children are comfortable in the daily routine and particularly enjoy spending time outdoors. They confidently use spades to scoop up sand and place it in different moulds. The childminder supports them as they turn the mould over and tap it before looking to see what they have created. Children enjoy doing tasks such as collecting water containers to add to the sand. This makes it easier to make shapes with it. However, at times, the routine is restrictive because children have to finish playing to have their snack or lunch. This means that they have to stop what they are involved in, which impacts on their learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder actively seeks the views of parents using her service. Parents speak positively about the care provided for their children. They comment that their children have grown in confidence from shy infants to toddlers who are full of confidence. They recognise the time and patience the childminder has for the children she cares for and say that their children 'can't stop talking about her and all the activities they have been enjoying with her.'
