p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates a warm, calm and safe environment for children. Children are happy, settled and secure in the environment and in their relationship with the childminder. They enjoy her company and seek her out to play, holding her hand or sitting close by as she reads to them. The childminder is ambitious in her curriculum for children. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey by the time they leave. Children negotiate the environment with interest. They self-select activities they would like to take part in and show high levels of sustained focus and concentration at their given tasks. They develop the ability to problem solve and build resilience as they try again when things become tricky.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations of children, and their behaviour is good. The childminder talks respectfully to children and uses 'please' and 'thank you' when asking them to turn a page in a book or pass an object. Children copy this and confidently use these words without prompting. The childminder provides children with lots of praise and encouragement. As they complete tasks, she regularly tells them, 'I am so proud of you' and children shine brightly with pride, clapping their hands at their own achievements.

n The curriculum for the development of communication and language has been carefully considered. The childminder provides a language-rich environment and children are confident communicators. They engage in meaningful conversations with the childminder about past events, such as visiting the beach, paddling in the water and filling buckets with sand. The childminder ensures she explains unfamiliar words to children, for example, the word 'bold' as it appears in a story. n The childminder knows her children well. She is knowledgeable about what it is they already know and can do and what it is they need to learn next. Occasionally, however, the childminder can be too ambitious in her activities for children. For example, setting up an alphabet matching puzzle for children before they have a secure foundation of letters and sounds. Children are unable to engage fully in the task and must wait for the childminder to lead them step-

by-step, finding each letter and accompanying picture before they can match them. n Children develop a love of reading and books. They carefully help to turn the pages one-by-one. They listen with anticipation as the childminder enthusiastically changes her tone and makes animal noises to bring the story to life. Children discuss what they see on the pages and what they think might happen next.

need to do better?

12 September 2024 n The childminder uses her local community to enhance the experience of children. Regular trips are taken to children's centres and playgroups to allow children the opportunity to socialise with other children and build friendships. Trips to areas, such as Victoria Park give children time to explore nature and feed the ducks. Other outings, including to the Victoria and Albert Museum opens children's imagination to different art and culture. n The childminder ensures children develop healthy lifestyles. She provides them with a nutritionally balanced diet with breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks freshly provided each day. Children excitedly wait for lunch to be dished up and talk about the types of fruit and vegetables they like best to eat, including broccoli and watermelon. Children are very physically active. They dance and move with confidence. During trips to the park children use play equipment,

such as slides and balance equipment with confidence. n Partnership with parents is good. The childminder regularly updates parents verbally and provides a comprehensive two-year check that summarises their development to date so far. Parents regularly receive photos and videos of activities children have taken part in across the week. n The childminder is reflective in her practice and regularly seeks the views of others to continue to build on what she offers. She continues to enhance her own professional development, taking part in regular training courses. Seeking to further her knowledge in supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) the childminder has recently completed an approved SEND course.
