p.1

The provision is good

Children settle very quickly with the childminder in her warm and welcoming home. The childminder is kind and caring. Parents are very confident to leave their children and this helps children to feel emotionally secure. The childminder knows children very well. They enthusiastically explore the range of activities, showing a motivation to learn. For example, the childminder introduces children to the names of lots of different farm animals and they enjoy singing animal songs. This helps to develop children's communication and language skills. The childminder also entwines mathematics into children's learning, such as through counting and sorting the animals into groups.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder organises plenty of outdoor learning experiences, such as in the local park. Older children also enjoy participating in different activities, such as exploring nature and playing football. This provides opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, learn about the world around them and develop their social skills. Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model. She supports children to learn how to keep themselves safe. When out on walks, children know to hold on to the buggy and to stop and use the 'Green Cross Code'.

n Snack time is an enjoyable experience. Children make healthy choices and the childminder uses this opportunity to promote children's independence. Children learn good manners and older children help to prepare and share out food for the group. The childminder encourages younger children to learn to use cutlery correctly. n The childminder organises the resources in the home to ensure that children can make choices about their play and learning. This encourages children to explore their own interests and ideas. The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour and they respond well to her encouragement and positive praise. For example, she expects children to tidy away toys when they have finished playing with them and wipe the table after lunch, which they happily do. n The childminder works in close partnership with parents and forms a close connection with them. She spends lots of time getting to know children and their

families. This creates a smooth settling-in process, which is flexible and ensures that children's individual needs are met. n The childminder evaluates her provision. She attends training and talks with her peers to help keep up to date with changes in early years. The childminder recognises areas of her practice that she would like to improve. She works with the local authority early years adviser to seek information to update her knowledge and skills. n The childminder keeps parents updated about the care their child receives and

However, after careful evaluation, she is currently looking at ways to encourage parents to share more information about their child's development at home and obtain regular feedback from parents. The childminder recognises that this will help to drive improvement and enhance the link between home and her setting. n The childminder works successfully with other educational providers to ensure that children's needs are met when they move on. She communicates effectively with other settings and shares relevant information about the progress and development children make during their time with her. The childminder takes children on visits to meet the teachers and reads them stories to support the transition. n The childminder teaches children to respect others and learn about different cultures and their beliefs. Children learn about key cultural celebrations, helping

them to understand about the community and the world they live in. The childminder introduces children to a range of celebrations, such as Eid, Diwali and Lunar New Year. The childminder uses books and food to support children to understand these festivals. n The childminder gathers information from parents before children start and offers settling-in sessions that meet individual children's needs. The childminder has flexible routines that fit around children's personalised care routines, particularly those of young children, prioritising children's emotional well-being. n The childminder helps children to build their communication skills. She gently repeats children's words correctly so they get it right the next time. The childminder notices children who need help with their speech and helps parents to get them the help they need.
