The provision is good
Children are happy and comfortable in the care of the childminder. They form strong bonds with her. Children spontaneously come to the childminder for cuddles and to snuggle on her lap with a book. The childminder is a good role model and is clear about her expectations of children's behaviour. Children are kind and respectful to their friends and to the childminder. The childminder is gentle but clear when reminding children to share resources or waiting for their turn. Children listen well and are happy to help tidy up and set up the chairs for lunch. The childminder helps children to begin to understand their feelings. She encourages them to express themselves through words and gestures.

She has clear expectations of what she wants children to learn while they are in her care. The childminder has good relationships with parents and carers. She values their input and welcomes their support. This helps children to feel safe and relaxed.

n The childminder has high expectations of children. She understands the important role early years professionals have in children's lives. The childminder plans activities that are interesting and engaging indoors and in the garden. For example, children concentrate for long periods while playing with wet sand in a tray. The childminder continues to add water to show children how the texture changes. Children have access to well-loved books and stories that they share with the childminder, who is skilled in encouraging children to remember the story and help her to tell it. n Feedback from parents and carers is very positive. The appreciate the efforts the childminder makes to build strong relationships with children from when they start settling in. The childminder works in partnership with parents, sharing photos and video of children as they engage in learning. They have daily chats about the activities children have enjoyed and how much they have eaten.

However, the childminder does not consistently collect information on children's care routines and development, when they first start attending, so she can plan what to teach children from the beginning as she begins to observe them. n The childminder keeps children safe in her care. Children wear sunscreen and hats to keep them safe in the garden and they wash hands before enjoying their lunch. The childminder is respectful of children's privacy, particularly while changing children's nappies. However, at times, the childminder does not let

This does not fully support children to become independent. n The childminder links with local childminders for support and advice. She reflects on the curriculum she provides for children and keeps her knowledge and training up to date. The childminder seeks the support of the local authority's early years team as necessary. n Children benefit from outings and exercise in the fresh air. They enjoy using the childminder's garden, as well as local parks and beaches. Children can chose to play inside or outside, and the childminder ensures that she provides interesting activities for children in all areas. n The childminder understands how important songs and stories are for children's speech and language development.
