The provision is good

The childminder provides a safe and welcoming space for children. She knows children well and is aware of their characteristics, interests and abilities. This enables the childminder to tailor her care and learning to their individual needs. Children show that they feel happy and secure with the childminder. They seek cuddles and reassurance when needed and enjoy her playful interactions. The childminder has high expectations for all children. She teaches them to be kind and helpful to others, and provides lots of praise for positive behaviour. This helps children to understand the rules and boundaries in place and they are keen to behave well.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides a broad curriculum, which helps children to develop the skills and attitudes they need for the next stages in their learning. There is a strong focus on promoting children's sense of responsibility and independence. For example, the childminder encourages children to help set the table and serve their own food at mealtimes. She gives them time and support to work out problems, such as sorting the cutlery or folding the tablecloth. This helps children to feel confident about tackling new experiences and challenges. Children approach tasks with positivity and determination.

n The childminder monitors children's progress closely and completes regular assessments, to ensure that her knowledge of their abilities is up to date. She shares this information with parents and works with them to support their children's next steps in learning. For instance, the childminder discusses when children are ready for toilet training and provides tips to help this go smoothly. This shared approach helps children to make good progress from their starting points in development. n The childminder is committed to continuous professional development and accesses additional training to further strengthen her practice. This helps to enhance her teaching and knowledge of child development. For instance, the childminder has acquired a good understanding of children's language development. She ensures that all activities include opportunities for children to speak, listen and learn new words. This helps all children, including those who

For instance, she provides a good variety of healthy meals and ensures that children are physically active throughout the day. However, she has not fully considered how she can use the daily routines and activities, to help children to understand the benefits of exercise and a healthy diet. n Children benefit from the first-hand experiences provided by the childminder, which enhance their curiosity and understanding of the world. For instance, they express their awe and wonder as they observe how caterpillars change into butterflies. Children also have opportunities to explore their local community, such as on visits to the local post office, shops and gardens. them practical skills, such as how to pay for items. n The childminder guides children's behaviour effectively and responds promptly to help them to solve any disagreements. She has introduced some opportunities for children to talk about their emotions. For example, children use pictures to indicate if they feel happy or sad at circle time.
