p.1
The provision is outstanding
The childminder establishes highly effective relationships with children and their families, even before they start at her setting. She works closely with parents to provide excellent support for children's well-being, nurture their sense of belonging and promote a positive attitude to learning. All children feel confident to 'have a go', develop new skills and persevere with a task. The childminder plans an ambitious curriculum, which she implements extremely successfully. Step by step, she builds on what children can already do until they become highly confident and competent learners, with an outstanding sense of achievement. For example, children fill bottles of water with food colouring to discover secondary colours. The childminder challenges older children with knowing how to make specific colours.
p.2
The provision is outstanding
The childminder inspires children to be curious and independent, enabling them to use trial and error to nurture their problem-solving skills. The childminder skilfully provides just the right amount of interaction and challenge to extend children's knowledge and skills. For example, children use available resources to initiate telling the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. They negotiate their roles, and older children help the younger ones recall the repeated phrases. The childminder poses problems, such as what they could use as a bridge, and children work together, selecting crates to build it. When younger children show some concern about a character in the story, older children demonstrate impressive empathy, coming up with a new ending that they are all happy with. Children are extremely motivated and change roles to do it again, embedding and extending their learning further.

n The childminder has an excellent understanding of child development. Through meticulous observation, she plans an excellent balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities. For example, when children notice their shadow in the sun, she plans to provide a projector to extend their fascinations further. She repeats experiences and activities, expertly giving children enough time to process their thoughts, and to ask and answer questions. This enables them to strengthen, embed and develop their knowledge. n The childminder continues to reflect on her practice, targeting her professional development successfully, to have the greatest impact on children's development. For example, the childminder uses her training in language and communication to help ensure children are extremely competent communicators. They explain that a frog is an 'amphibian' and how they 'activate' the walkie- talkie. The childminder expertly adds to their vocabulary, such as explaining how

The childminder shares her expertise with parents and other providers to benefit children and the wider community. n Parents confirm the excellent partnerships they have with the childminder, which have an outstanding impact on children's development. They comment on the extensive exchange of information, enabling the childminder to thoroughly understand each child's uniqueness and meet their individual needs extremely well. Parents know precisely what their children are learning and how they can support them at home. n Children thrive in the childminder's care. They relish outdoor learning, grow their own produce and benefit from the many outings the childminder plans to widen their experiences. For example, they recently made a visit to the dentist. The childminder then planned fun activities to embed children's understanding of the

importance of oral care. n Children learn to keep themselves fit and well. For example, they have an excellent awareness of safety in the sun and staying hydrated because the childminder is an exemplary model. She is currently working on an accreditation to become a 'Healthy Early Years Setting'. n Children become extremely independent. For example, at snack time, they wash their hands and work together harmoniously, setting the table with china plates and glasses. Older children thoughtfully give younger ones responsibilities, so they are all included. They carry the tray from the kitchen, butter their crumpets, use tongs to select fruit and pour their milk. Then they clear away afterwards and sweep the floor. n Children understand the childminder's high expectations and behave exceptionally well, developing highly respectful relationships. The childminder empowers children to express their emotions appropriately, value their friends'

feelings and negotiate any conflict. For example, when they all want to play the same guitar, she turns the music off, explaining why. Then she sensitively enables the children to decide on a solution, which they are all happy with. The childminder is an excellent, calm role model, inspiring children through her enthusiasm.
