p.1

The provision requires improvement

The childminder has not taken all necessary steps to ensure the suitability of household members. That said, the childminder provides a nurturing home-from- home environment for children. The children show that they are extremely settled and happy in this setting. They feel safe and cared for and develop a sense of character, which builds their confidence and resilience and encourages a positive attitude towards their learning.

p.2

The provision requires improvement

Children benefit from the childminder's ambitious curriculum. They gain a wide range of skills to prepare them well for the next stage of learning. The childminder sequences her curriculum to help children build on what they already know and can do. For example, the childminder plans activities to support children's developing language and thinking skills. Children are captivated by what she offers and enjoy creating artwork, all while sharing ideas and talking about what they are doing. Consequently, all children make good progress during their time in the childminder's care.

p.2

The provision requires improvement

The childminder is kind, caring and a good role model. She is consistent in her behaviour management, which helps children understand expectations and boundaries. Children are kind and caring towards one another. They listen well, enjoy playing together and sharing and have fun. Children are happy in each other's presence.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has failed to provide Ofsted with the necessary information to enable all required suitability checks to be carried out on family members. Although this has little impact on children in the childminder's care, it is a breach of legal requirement. n From the outset, the childminder gathers detailed information from parents about what children know and can do. She uses this information to plan an interesting and broad curriculum that focuses on the interests of the children in attendance. The childminder continuously shares information with parents about what their children have been learning and the progress they make. n The childminder has a good awareness of child development and what she would like children to learn next. However, the childminder needs to focus more precisely on the identified learning intentions of children during adult-led activities to ensure they make the best possible progress.

p.2

need to do better?

n Partnerships with parents are positive and strong. Parents report that their children look forward to coming to the childminder. They feel their children have made great progress in their personal and social development, and their communication and language have progressed well since starting with the

14 August 2024 childminder. n The childminder promotes children's good health and follows good hygiene practices. For example, children wash their hands before mealtimes, and the childminder works with parents to ensure that healthy lunches and snacks are provided. She also teaches children about healthy eating and lifestyles through conversations at mealtimes. n Children enjoy lots of fresh air daily. They go on daily walks and visit local parks with the childminder. They use their large-muscle skills to run around the park, climb up the slide and move outdoors in various ways, such as jumping, hopping, running and chasing one another. This helps children to build core strength and coordination. n The childminder increases children's awareness of diversity by taking them on trips to restaurants to try different foods and learning about different religious and cultural festivals, such as Chinese New Year and Diwali.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows how to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. She uses assessment well to identify any gaps in learning. The childminder also knows which agencies to seek support from in order to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time and to close any gaps in learning. n The childminder is committed to evaluating her practice and setting. She meets regularly with childminder colleagues to reflect on practice and share knowledge. The childminder also attends forums and engages in targeted training to continue her professional development.
