p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides children with a calm, friendly and homely environment. She builds strong bonds with the children, who are happy and safe in her care. She follows babies' routines from home, which helps them to feel secure and content. The childminder uses positive reinforcement and praise with children as they play. This helps to bolster children's self-esteem and confidence. The childminder supports children to be independent and develop a 'can-do' attitude. For example, toddlers are happy to persevere as they put on their own shoes. The childminder provides a wide range of resources that are easily accessible to children. She extends children's learning as they choose their play. For example, as children stick magnetic shapes to metal fencing, the childminder helps them to learn to name the shapes. Children start to develop an understanding of mathematical language and its use as they start to identify 'little' and 'big' objects.

p.2

The provision is good

Children enjoy the playful interactions of the childminder. They are keen to join in activities. Children develop positive attitudes towards their learning and start to acquire the skills they need for their next stage of learning, including their eventual move on to school.

All children make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder undertakes online training and personal research to help her to refresh her skills and knowledge. However, she is not fully aware of the different agencies that can provide her with support and advice for children who may need additional help. n The childminder helps children to build on their communication skills. She is alert and responds to children's attempts to communicate. She helps children to learn new words and build sentences. n The childminder helps children to develop a love of books. They select their favourite stories and take them to the childminder to read. They listen intently to the story. They point out and name different objects and characters. Children enjoy pressing the interactive buttons on the book to create different sounds.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder supports children to develop good physical skills. Children develop their small muscles as they play. For example, the childminder teaches children to thread wooden shapes onto large laces. She encourages them to sprinkle a flour and coconut mixture with their fingers as they fill and empty different containers. Children enjoy dancing to nursery rhymes. n The childminder supports children to lead healthy lifestyles. She works with parents to ensure children come to her setting with nutritious packed lunches

Parents comment on the regular feedback they receive about their children's learning. They say their children are happy and safe in the childminder's care. However, the childminder has not yet developed partnerships with other settings that the children in her care attend. This does not fully support consistency in children's learning and development.
