p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates a warm and inviting environment. She uses the settling-in period to gather information about children's individual needs and interests from parents. This helps the childminder to support children to settle and gain an understanding of their starting points in development. The childminder uses this knowledge to plan interesting activities that meet the individual learning needs of children and build on what they already know.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are happy, confident and inquisitive. They approach the inspector to introduce themselves and ask questions. Children benefit from positive interactions and a caring approach from the childminder and her assistants. For example, when children become unsettled, the childminder comforts them with cuddles and gentle words, and distracts them with interesting activities.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. Children acquire good social skills. They interact well with their friends and are keen to help each other. For instance, children share toys when they see their friends would like a turn. n The childminder works well with her co-childminder. She provides children with a curriculum that enables children to build on what they already know and gain new skills and knowledge. The childminder uses her observations to identify any emerging needs. She works in partnership with parents and the local authority to support children to meet their next steps in learning. The childminder adapts activities to children's ages and abilities. This inclusive practice supports children to make good progress from their starting points in development. n The childminder and her assistants support children who are learning to speak English as an additional language well. They speak to children in English and Bulgarian. Children respond and follow instructions in both languages. At group times, children choose English and Bulgarian songs. They enjoy singing and doing the actions. n Children behave well and develop positive friendships. The childminder supports

Consequently, children make good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. n Children demonstrate independence skills. They put on their own shoes, choose their own activities and feed themselves. The childminder sometimes gives older children spoons to eat with. This means that they do not have consistent opportunities to develop the skills they need to use a knife and fork.
