Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2729532 1 ‘‘
p.1
Registered provider: Kedleston (Wood Grove Childcare) Limited
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home registered with Ofsted in July 2023 and is owned by a large private provider. It offers care for up to five children who may experience social and/or emotional difficulties. At the time of this visit, four children were living at the home.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager has been in post since the home registered.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 17 June 2024. Following the inspection, the provider was issued with a notice restricting accommodation. This means that no new children can move into the home while the notice is in place.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was carried out due to further concerns being reported to Ofsted following the full inspection. Another purpose of the visit was to consider what immediate actions have been taken to address the serious and widespread failures identified at the full inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The information shared with Ofsted raised concerns about insufficient food in the home, a lack of resource to accommodate activities for children, damage to the premises and concerns around staffing sufficiency. No concerns were identified relating to food. The home provides a wide range of nutritious food that is readily avaliable and easily accessible for children. Although children engage in a variety of planned activities, there is a limit to what spontaneous activities can take place. This is due to the staffing issues that have already been identified at the full inspection. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2729532 2 There are some maintenance issues in the home, such as damage to walls and the kitchen floor. However, these have already been identified by leaders and managers and there are arrangements in place to address them. The maintenance issues do not compromise children’s safety.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have devised an action plan to address the shortfalls that are detailed in the notice restricting accommodation. This includes ensuring that the ongoing investigations regarding staff conduct are progressing in a timely way and in consultation with the local authority designated officer. Some investigations regarding staff conduct remain ongoing. The action plan includes a schedule of training for staff. This includes training in managing allegations, behaviour management and anti-bullying.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Although no new shortfalls were identified at this visit, further concerns relating to notifying Ofsted of allegations were found. This is because an allegation was raised by a child following an incident. The registered manager shared the details of the allegation with relevant safeguarding partners. However, this was not notified to Ofsted. This shows further weaknesses in this area.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The requirements raised at the full inspection were not considered at this visit and have been restated. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2729532 3
