p.1
The provision is good
The childminder and her assistant provide a warm and welcoming environment, where children are happy and supported well in activities. Children are settled and enjoy their time with the childminder and her assistant. Together they enjoy regular trips out within the local environment, which include fun sessions where children can sing, dance and explore. Activities such as these help children to develop their social skills as they meet with other adults and children. The childminder gets to know children well before they start with her, which helps children to feel safe and secure. Children are independent. They confidently lead their own play and make choices about what they would like to do. This supports their interests and helps all children to make good progress in their learning.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder is good at recognising the children's feelings. She frequently discusses the actions children portray to help them understand emotions in themselves and to help them to learn how to regulate their own responses to strong emotions. Overall, children's behaviour is good. However, at times, some children do not receive consistent messages from the childminder to help them manage their behaviour, in particular about how their actions might affect others. Nevertheless, the childminder and her assistant praise children regularly, which promotes their self-esteem and confidence well.

learning at home. n The childminder regularly reflects on her childminding business. She and her assistant talk about the children and the day's events. The childminder completes a variety of planning, which includes identifying the intent and implementation of activities. She shares this with her assistant. However, the ongoing coaching and mentoring of her assistant is not targeted sharply enough to help identify their quality of teaching and their understanding of their role and responsibilities. Nevertheless, the childminder understands the value of supervising her assistant and she directs him in activities as required.
