p.1

Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Good

p.1

The provision is inadequate

The provider does not ensure that staff in management roles have the support and training they need to be able to undertake their roles and responsibilities effectively. This leads to weaknesses in safeguarding that present a risk to children's welfare. For example, staff with lead responsibility for safeguarding fail to make timely referrals to external agencies about the welfare of children or allegations made about staff members. The provider is not prioritising children's safety where there are indications that children may be at risk.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children are not kept sufficiently safe when staff take them on outings. For example, staff allow children to touch and pick plants without knowing if they are safe. When incidents occur, the provider allows staff to continue to take children on the same outings without considering any new risks or hazards. The processes and practice for assessing risks during outings are not robust.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Staff do not understand their responsibilities in protecting the privacy of children in their care. Staff in management roles are aware that other staff share confidential information with parents about events that have occurred in the nursery that do not involve them. However, they have not acted swiftly or thoroughly enough to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Weaknesses in the gathering of information about pre-existing injuries put children's safety at risk. When children arrive with injuries that have occurred outside of the nursery, staff do not always ask parents about these to find out how the injury occurred. This means they may not identify patterns of injuries that present a safeguarding risk.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Staff in management roles do not design an appropriately challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all children, particularly the youngest children. Staff organise learning opportunities without considering how they can build on what children already know and can do. For example, babies wait for long periods as staff prepare to go for a walk and remain in their pushchairs during the outing without benefiting from good-quality interactions with staff. Children generally behave well but often lose focus because planned activities do not meet their individual needs. The quality of education is poor and does not ensure children make good progress from their starting points.

p.2

need to do better?

n Processes for the induction, training and monitoring of senior staff are not robust and those with management responsibility have not received the support and coaching they need to be able to fulfil their duties. This impacts negatively on

p.2

need to do better?

19 June 2024 the management of concerns about children's safety and the design and delivery of the curriculum. n Staff know the signs and symptoms that might show that a child is at risk of abuse and they report concerns to staff with lead responsibility for safeguarding. However, this information is not always shared with appropriate external agencies in a timely way. In addition, when staff raise concerns about the practice of other staff, these are not shared with the local authority designated officer in line with local safeguarding partnership procedures. These weaknesses present a risk to children's safety and welfare. n Risk assessments are not thorough. Staff with management responsibility do not ensure that all staff know what the plants are that children handle when on outings and which are poisonous. This places children's health and well-being at risk. n Parents become aware of information related to children other than their own,

which does not protect the privacy of children who attend the nursery. This is because the provider does not take sufficient action to ensure staff maintain confidentiality. n Staff manage accidents that occur at the nursery well. Following a recent incident, the provider has updated the processes for managing accidents. Staff now report accidents or incidents to parents without delay. However, staff do not always ask parents about injuries that are pre-existing when they arrive at nursery. This means that staff do not have all the information they need to support the safety and well-being of children. n Those with a management responsibility do not design a challenging curriculum. Staff organise activities that they think children will enjoy but do not always consider prior learning. For example, staff working with older children choose topics that are beyond children's level of understanding and, as a result, children

lose interest. Staff do not consider the individual needs of children to organise suitable experiences that build on what they already know and can do. n Not all staff interact with children well. Staff do not do enough to introduce children to new vocabulary or to help them to learn how to pronounce words correctly. Staff do not engage in high-quality two-way conversations with children that nurture their communication and language development. For example, staff do not encourage children to share their ideas and often use closed responses when children talk to them, instead of encouraging further interaction. n The provider spends extra funding that they receive to purchase resources for the intended children. Despite this, weaknesses in the quality of education do not ensure all children make good progress from their starting points. n Staff greet children warmly as they arrive and are kind and caring. The provider

is respectful and welcoming of all families, and parents value their approach in supporting children to understand that all families are different.
