This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was carried out following the very sad expected death of a child. Ofsted does not investigate incidents of this kind. The focus of this monitoring visit has been the support provided to staff, foster carers and children, training and supervision alongside actions taken by the agency.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The compassionate and skilled care provided by foster carers enabled the child to live in a safe and nurturing environment. The child experienced plentiful and joyful activities in the home and in the wider community.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Managers ensure that supervision and training for foster carers are a priority. As a result, foster carers are highly skilled and knowledgeable. Foster carers provide attentive, compassionate care to the children they care for. Inspection report for independent fostering agency: People Who Foster 2 Agency social workers regularly discuss foster carers training outcomes and developmental needs as part of their supervision. Foster carers often complete additional health-related training to inform the care they provide. This ensures foster carers develop their skills alongside the child’s ever changing health and social needs.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The high levels of skill the foster carers develop often reduces the time children spend in hospital. This allows for the children, to be cared for in a homely and personalised environment.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff are experienced and suitably trained. The senior leadership team actively supports the team through informal discussions and formally through regular, practice-related supervision. Appropriate bereavement support is available to staff and foster carers.

(‘Fostering services: national minimum standards’, 4.1)  The registered person should ensure that each approved foster carer has regular meetings with a qualified social worker and that this also includes secondary approved foster carers at regular intervals. Meetings should have a clear purpose and provide the opportunity to supervise the foster carer’s work, ensure that the foster carer is meeting the child’s needs, taking into account the child’s wishes and feelings, and offer support and a framework to assess the carer’s performance and develop their competencies and skills.
