p.1

The provision is good

The childminder's philosophy of, 'You are braver than you believe and smarter than you think,' is at the heart of what she delivers. The childminder gives high priority to supporting children's personal, social and emotional well-being. She establishes very strong bonds with the children. Her nurturing and calm nature helps them to feel safe and secure. Children climb on her lap and snuggle in for a cuddle at story time. They have high levels of self-esteem and are extremely confident. The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour, and when minor disagreements happen, she reminds them that 'sharing is caring'. The childminder has well-established routines to support children's good behaviour.

The provision is good

Children are surrounded by a wealth of reading materials which encourage their language and literacy development. They talk about the 'Hungry Caterpillar' and enjoy telling the childminder what he eats. Children make meaningful associations with things they recall, demonstrating their increasing vocabulary. For example, they explain, 'He eats pear and strawberries, and we had those for snack this morning.' The childminder's well-sequenced curriculum focuses on continually developing children's skills. She provides activities to support and help them to make good progress.

n The childminder takes the children out into the local community. She takes them to playgroups so that they can make new friends and develop their social skills. Children also visit local parks, the beach, and a farm where they feed the animals and make campfires. This helps to build on children's prior knowledge and experiences and develops their knowledge of the world. n The childminder's curriculum provides various opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. Outdoors, they develop their large-muscle skills. Children learn to confidently climb the large slide and play on the swings with a little push from the childminder. At snack time, children develop their coordination and small-muscle skills as they peel and chop fruit before putting it in the recycling. These well-developed physical skills prepare children well for their future learning. n Children's motivation and increasing independence are promoted well. They

attempt to put on their shoes, ready to play outdoors. When children need encouragement from the childminder, she praises their achievements, saying they are 'amazing'. The childminder encourages children to take an active part in their own self-care. Older children use the toilet independently and all children are aware of the importance of washing their hands. Children develop positive attitudes to learning. n The childminder provides children with an exciting curriculum which is delivered

21 June 2024 using children's interests and new experiences. She builds on their understanding of the world as they learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and the frog. She provides real-life experiences, for example visits to the local pond to see the tadpoles. The childminder uses this interest to promote other learning. For instance, she encourages children to make symmetrical pictures of butterflies by gluing on different-coloured pom-poms. However, on occasion, the childminder moves children on to other activities without providing them with enough time to consolidate their learning. This does not help them to secure their learning as well as possible. n The childminder is passionate about doing the best she can for children. She obtains information about what interests the children through her observations and gains the views of parents to help her continue to improve her provision. She links with local advisers to keep up with changes to guidance. The

childminder also reflects and evaluates her practice regularly and uses training to help her continue to provide good-quality education. n The childminder has excellent partnerships with parents and other professionals. Parents speak highly of the childminder's nurturing care. They say she provides fun activities which help children develop well and make good progress. The childminder provides daily photos and discussions to update parents on their children's learning and development. She offers advice and support on matters such as potty training. This helps parents to continue to support and extend their children's learning at home.
