p.1
The provision is good
The childminder offers a welcoming and inclusive homely environment. She is supportive of children's independence. For example, the childminder encourages children to make choices about where to play and what to play with. Children enjoy their activities alongside various outings arranged by the childminder that broaden their interests. Children show clearly that they feel happy and content in the childminder's care. They have a warm bond with her. Babies, for example, demonstrate their bonds as they enjoy cuddles, especially after waking from a nap. They childminder is consistent in the messages she gives in regard to behaviour and positive attitudes to learning. Children show understanding of these expectations and are keen to learn.

The provision is good
The childminder is confident about how she plans her curriculum. She is mindful to assess what children can already do and anything they struggle with. She knows the importance of building on the knowledge children have already acquired to help them embed learning further. For example, children show they can recognise two- dimensional shapes and are learning how to identify three-dimensional shapes. They confidently identify a square and a triangle as shapes. Children learn new terms, such as 'sphere' as they play with balls and 'cube' as they play with boxes.

need to do better?
n The childminder is keen to ensure that she helps children to meet their potential. For instance, she places a high focus on language, including for children speaking English as an additional language, and for any children where language is delayed. She makes sure she communicates effectively and clearly during play to promote this. The childminder has used further training, for example, in early language, to reinforce her knowledge and confidence further. n The childminder interacts effectively during play in order to motivate children's interests and engagement. For instance, during a shopping game with a basket of toy food items, the childminder uses picture cards to help children match up the produce. She gives encouragement if children struggle, but knows the importance of allowing children time to think. Children proudly identify items such as peppers and ice-cream. n Babies demonstrate emotional security in the childminder's care. She

understands their routines and for instance, lets them sleep according to their needs. Babies wake refreshed and happy. They thoroughly enjoy watching older children play. The childminder encourages children's free choices for play, and has a broad selection of good quality toys and resources. However, at times she is not as confident to let babies develop their independence and physical abilities further. For example, she sometimes does not fully extend opportunities for babies to explore freely and show curiosity both indoors and outside.
