p.1

The provision is good

Children develop warm and trusting relationships with the childminder, who is attentive and caring. They are well-supported and enjoy a wide range of challenging activities that excite and interest them. They are confident and freely access the toys they wish to play with. The childminder's planning focuses on developing the key skills necessary for children to succeed in their learning. She demonstrates a good understanding of child development and devises a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses all areas of learning. Children's early communication skills are well supported by the childminder. She consistently engages with the children, describing what is happening during their play and care routines, which helps them learn new words and phrases and associate them with actions.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is a good role model and consistently uses praise and encouragement. Children eagerly listen to the childminder, behave well, and learn to consider the needs of others. They are highly motivated in learning and become absorbed in their play. For example, children enjoy role playing shops and act out shop keeper and customer and use play money to buy and sell food. In the garden, the childminder provider children with plenty of reassurance, for instance when they climb on a climbing frame. Children call out the childminder's name and show pride in their achievements when they reach the top.

n The childminder knows the children in her care exceptionally well and can talk accurately about their capabilities. She carries out observations and assessments to identify and support children's individual needs. She has a clear understanding of how to plan an effective and challenging early years curriculum. For instance, children develop and enhance their hand-eye coordination by using large paintbrushes and pots of bright liquid paint to decorate the garden shed. n The childminder encourages children to develop a positive understanding of healthy lifestyles. For instance, she gives them ample opportunities for exercise and educates them on the importance of keeping their teeth clean. She also uses familiar stories about a hungry caterpillar, to discuss healthy food choices and enhance their knowledge of eating well. This helps to build their confidence and allows them to develop skills that prepare them for future learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has a kind and calm approach towards the children, which effectively supports their emotional well-being. She encourages children to focus, persevere, and explore activities they are interested in. However, at times, the childminder does too much for the children, which can hinder their independence skills. For instance, she does not consistently encourage children

27 June 2024 to help tidy up before starting a new activity or to manage their own simple personal needs, such as using a tissue to wipe their nose. n The childminder maintains good communication with parents and she actively encourages them to share their views. She keeps parents updated through regular discussions, progress summaries, and photographs of their children playing to celebrate their achievements. This helps parents to support their children's learning at home. Parents' written testimonials demonstrate that they are very happy with the service the childminder provides. n The childminder consistently evaluates her practice and identifies areas for improvement to enhance good outcomes for children. For instance, since the last inspection, she has developed her garden significantly to create sensory and physical areas that facilitate children's exploration of the world around them. Children have lots of fun arranging small-world sea creatures and exploring with
