p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a supportive environment in which children feel confident and safe to explore. Children show they enjoy her company as they chat happily and share their play experiences with her. The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn the meanings of words. For example, as she sings a song about spiders, she gives children appropriate props and pictures to support their understanding. Children join in with the singing and enjoy these activities.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder introduces children to celebrations that reflect their cultural backgrounds. Children develop an understanding of what makes them and their families unique. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about people's similarities and differences. Children learn about the world around them.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder praises children for their achievements. Children develop confidence in their abilities. For example, they are delighted when they complete a task, and they exclaim, 'I did it!' Children behave well and understand the routines at the setting. The childminder has high expectations for individual children's progress and plans a curriculum that enables children to develop strong foundations for future learning. Children make steady progress from their starting points and are prepared well for next stages in their learning.

need to do better?

n The childminder reflects well on her practice. She understands her responsibility to share information effectively with parents and with Ofsted. Since the previous inspection, she has planned and implemented improvements to her practice to provide quality care and learning experiences for children. n Young children focus well on activities that interest them, such as jigsaw puzzles. They demonstrate hand-to-eye coordination as they pick up individual shapes by the knob and match them to slots in the base board. Children develop skills that prepare them for future learning. n The childminder enables children to build on their early understanding of mathematics. Children learn to count objects during play and to recognise numerals. The childminder encourages them to recognise colours. For example, she names colours and the children learn to identify the corresponding objects from the tray. However, on some occasions she does not challenge children

sufficiently to enable them to learn more than what they already know. n The childminder introduces children to the names of animals such as 'monkey' and 'elephant'. Children join in enthusiastically and learn to repeat the sounds that different animals make. The childminder provides opportunities for children to engage in planting activities. These experiences contribute to children's growing understanding of the natural world.

need to do better?

19 June 2024 n The childminder supports children to use their imagination in activities such as role play. Children pretend to cook and they pretend to care for baby dolls. However, on some occasions the childminder does not plan fully effectively to support children's interest in exploring creative activities, such as painting. n Children build on their vocabulary and are confident using a range of words in the context of their play. For example, they say, 'I fixed it', as they place the baby doll in the buggy and fix the safety belts. They learn to communicate their choices, for example when they choose to 'stack' objects during play. n The childminder works in partnership with parents to meet children's dietary needs. Children build their independence. For example, they learn to help themselves to water when they are thirsty. The childminder takes them on regular outings, which provides them with opportunities to benefit from exercise
