Inspection of Brooklyn Play Club Downhall Primary School, Brooklyn Drive, Rayleigh SS6 9LW

p.1

This provision meets requirements

The manager is very enthusiastic and committed to provide children with a most welcoming, home-from-home and exciting environment. Children are greeted from school by happy, attentive staff, who know the children well. They are genuinely interested in the children's day at school and engage them in conversations. Several of the staff members work at the host school during the day, so are familiar adults for the children, who settle quickly. The staff ensure they have appropriate information regarding the children and their family and invest time in getting to know them before they attend. All children are eager to investigate the opportunities provided. They are excited to see the staff and their friends, and quickly settle at their chosen activity. Even the very youngest children are confident and settled. An effective key-person system supports the children that may require reassurance.

This provision meets requirements

Children make friendships and are kind and thoughtful to one another. Staff are good role models and children understand their high expectations. There is a calm and homely atmosphere and children's behaviour is very good. Children's well- being is fully considered. For example, those that may want to sit quietly, or are tired after a busy day at school, have several quiet and very comfortable places to relax. Children are encouraged to have a say in the activities provided and make choices. Staff respectfully listen to, and facilitate, their requests. Children play well together and there is a happy atmosphere throughout the session.

Children build secure, warm attachments with regular adults caring for them. They confidently engage visitors in conversation and invite them to join their games. They discuss what they enjoy doing at the club, such as cooking activities and playing outdoors. n The manager and her team have established positive working relationships with the host school. Communication is strong and discussions, if needed, take place with the teacher at the end of the school day when children are collected, to

The inspector spoke to staff at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector looked at a sample of the provider's documentation, including training certificates. n Parents told the inspector what they thought about the provision and staff, and their views were considered. n The children told the inspector what they like to do when they are at the club.
