The provision is good
The childminder and her assistant create a warm, safe, welcoming and inviting environment where children settle quickly and want to learn. They form strong bonds with the children who are curious and happily engage in play. The childminder and her assistant listen to the children. They are gentle and sensitive to children's emotional needs, giving hugs when needed. Children cheerfully say goodbye as they leave for nursery. Those arriving after nursery, eagerly say 'hello' and are ready to play. The childminder respects and values each child. She helps them to learn about diversity. For example, children have opportunities to play with resources and have stories that reflect their cultural backgrounds and people around the world. The childminder teaches children to respect others and value differences.

The provision is good
Children are keen to explore the activities that the childminder provides. The childminder carefully considers children's interests. She skilfully plans around this to help engage and excite children, which helps them progress in their development. The childminder provides age-appropriate and ambitious play experiences to help children learn skills they need in readiness for future learning. She is very organised and has clear routines. This helps children know what to expect and how to behave. For instance, she teaches children to join in with tidy-up time before snack. Children behave well and are calm.

need to do better?
n The childminder has strong partnerships with parents. She ensures she gathers information from parents when children start attending, to help her get to know and understand them. She communicates with parents and other settings that children also attend very well. She shares relevant information about what children enjoy, their time with her and their development. This flow of information helps promote consistency for children, which parents echo. They highly praise the childminder and her assistant for their work with their children. n Children have access to a wide range of interesting resources to play with and explore. The childminder provides learning experiences linked to what children know, which support their engagement well. For instance, children are eager to join in painting a caterpillar linked to a story they have read and know. They concentrate well in their play and show good levels of curiosity and creativity.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder knows the children in her care well. She knows their starting points, what they can now do and what they need to learn next. She uses this information well to plan experiences that capture children's enthusiasm and joy of learning to promote their development. However, opportunities to implement the learning intent are not always realised to achieve its full effect. For example, opportunities to build on children's mathematical concepts during activities were

However, this can be further improved. On occasions, the childminder and her assistant do not allow children to do simple tasks for themselves. For example, putting on their paint apron, chopping their own fruits and serving themselves at mealtimes to build on their self-help skills. n The childminder supports children's communication skills well. She demonstrates how to use language and provides good opportunities for young children and those learning English as an additional language to hear different words. For example, older children join the childminder to talk about the transformation of a caterpillar to 'chrysalis'. She successfully helps children to build on their vocabulary and use words in context. n Children learn to make healthy choices. They have opportunities to be active and

their dietary requirements are carefully considered. They eat nutritious foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. The childminder supports children's physical skills well, providing a range of equipment to encourage them to move about in different ways, such as climbing. n The childminder is reflective and evaluates her service. She keeps her knowledge up to date and provides valuable support to her assistant. This helps enhance their quality of service and children's education further.
